Thanks! Probably the same way it unfolded with the Prophet 10 - utter disappointment, but then absolute love.

Yeah - I feel my GAS is waning as I age... I don't feel strongly towards this at all. It does some cool sounds, but nothing that blows my mind. I'm still thinking the Ensoniq ESQ1 can do more interesting things. I dunno.

Really nice. I have always liked the VS, and I agree about the ESQ-1. It's easy to forget the context of the VS when it was made, and Dave Smith has interesting things to say about what his intentions were. I liked the notes your collaborator chose.

Yeah - so far I'm not convinced I'll hang on to this for long. I think something about it would have to blow me away (which hasn't happened yet). What did DS have to say about what his intentions were? I didn't read that anywhere. Thanks!

@@MIDERA Probably nothing you haven't heard, but I just find it fascinating how the folks at Sequential came up with a lot of the concepts for the architecture that were very quickly copied by everyone else, including digital synth makers to this day. Dave said he wanted that sharp, clinical aspect to the sound that was starting to dominate at that time, from digital synths, but with the analog filters and amps providing that earthiness. And he liked the aliasing that happens in the high end, recognizing that those sort of idiosyncrasies would be appreciated rather than denigrated. I remember these going almost immediately from an innovative new release into being a vintage synth about a year later, LOL. Cheers.

I'm surprised with your VS culture experience. It seems like in the synth chatter I've heard, the VS is well known and well regarded. I'm using supermassive, but I confess I'm still not happy with my experience, though I'm happy to chalk it up to user error. This video sounds great. Thing is, with Empress, there is nothing to "overcome" or 'get the hang of'. Only it's lack of immediacy in my daw, but that's a different kettle of fish. Kitty assist for the win. Kitty knew just the right jazz note to spice this up ;)

For supermassive - if you go into presets, I go into reverse and Large and… Seafoam? Or something like that. That’s the preset I use and it sounds great! I just haven’t seen much online about the VS… maybe I just can’t find it yet. I thought I’ve looked everywhere. And yeah. Kitty was super funny, till she started climbing the walls!

Sounds lovely. Are you finding the vector joystick usable live? I’m trying out desktop Evolver which has some VS DNA, plus the Behringer VS (cough&). But am missing the larger interface and hands on controls - both for performance and patch editing. I must need a furry assistant to help with the live controls too. Perhaps a small monkey like the one from Indiana Jones🐒 ⛰️ Glad your health is ok. Been there.
@MIDERA3 ай бұрын
Thanks. The Joystick is ok. I think I just don't quite know my way around the thing yet. I should also replace all the tact switches so I don't press once and get it to go 2 forward, etc. The Prophet does have something organic going on that I can't quite tell what it is. It has a lot of bottom end, but it doesn't sound muddy. I also have the Poly Evolver and can't say that it sounds anything like this, but they're easier to edit at least! I guess you could also try out the Behringer VS, which I think sounds pretty spot on after an update. Thanks :)

@@MIDERA Been a fan for a minute now, love your demonstrations, so I know anything you get on is going to sound nice. Got mine mint for 1400, what a steal, I think it's a modern day engineering masterpiece. The combination between analog and digital on this thing means it can basically make any sound on any synth... there are some demos of people making it sound Convincingly close to a CS-80 on one patch, and a Rhodes. The thing has been blowing me away. I used to be an "Analog Only" synths guy, but this thing has made me rethink that, and appreciate the sounds of digital synthesis a lot more. I also find it doubtful that any VST could perform any sounds as well as the Summit performs them digitally, there's a real degree of Fidelity here with the digital sounds that no VST can come close to. We usually hear people say that some of these digital synths are "just another overpriced VST in a box"... for a lot of digital synth products, I would agree, but not the case for the Summit. Literally blowing my mind this thing. On another topic, the Moog Muse is one I'm trying not to get... as I like all the sounds it makes, reminds me a lot of the video game soundtracks at times I'd hear on The Sega Master System. All synths currently in my arsenal: Arturia MatrixBrute, Behringer Odyssey, Prophet 08 (which I like way more than the REV 2), Summit, Korg Wavestate. Also, if you're into VST's at all, a really good FREE emulator for the CS-80 is called "Arminator" I think it even sounds better than a lot of paid alternatives. Appreciate what you do, keep doing it :)
