From the way your valves were working, right after you got the piston to the top, you were probably at TDC on the exhaust stroke, just before the intake stroke. It has to be at TDC, on the compression stroke, when the lifters are at the center of the round of the camshaft. or your settings will not be correct. It may run, but it's not exactly right. That is probably why one of your valves was a little tight, to start with. If you set the clearance at that spot, your clearance will be too wide, at the correct spot.

My mistake was not recording how bad it was before the adjustment. But I did record what it ran like after the adjustment 12:00 ( I just called the owner of the mower and asked him how it was doing and he said "It runs Great, but I am using it to mow things that I shouldn't" ( cutting small bushes down )

What fuel type does this engine take? I recently bought the same mower. It looks to be a four stroke engine but the cap says 50/1

Normal 'Car' fuel. No extra oil added to the fuel. but in saying that, the unit had fuel in it when it was brought to me so you may want to do more research

I don't think it would hurt it if you added a little oil to the fuel, at worst it might smoke just a little 50/1 is a very low oil to fuel mixture

Have no idea what you set the valves to or if intake and exhaust are the same.. which they usually are not. So much mumbeling could not know what you were talking about. You should have put in writing above what the setting should be.
