I've been following you for a while now and I've learned a few thing along the way. If a bike ain't running it's the carburetor or some electrical thing, if those things ain't the problem then it's not a bitchin' bike.
@Lionheart6387 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that too when watching the video. If it's a carbureted bike and it ain't running, usually a good cleaning of the carburetors will fix that problem.

You got it friendo
@mrmaxstorey7 жыл бұрын
Yeah carbs are the problem most of the time
@gavinnance44758 күн бұрын
@@Lionheart638 sounds like it runs good, the carbs need a clean and the floats need adjusting. you can hear it skipping a bit when idling because the fuel level is dropping below the idle jet. if he hasnt figured it out 7 years later then im sure he sold it to someone else

I just sold my '86 ZL 600 (see video) for about $1300 (I'm in northern CA). I was so excited to see you do a video on it. It was my first bike, first love. I'm a girl too and your videos helped me to wrench on my bike a little. It is an excellent first bike with great power (also covered in my review of the bike). I would love to know what you get for it.

Hey Max, Nice job getting her back on track. Love these bikes, had a ZL1000 years ago, and it was awesome ! I really don't know how you price your bikes. I know that you said we suck at pricing them. lol, I'd like to see you make a video explaining the process you use to determine their value. Then we' would have a fighting chance at understanding how you go about it. If you could also do a follow up on the bikes we all suggested prices on, That'd be Great ! In my area, this bike would retail for about 1250, and about 750 as a trade in. ( Says Kelly B.B. )

I've got an 86 as well with only about 12k on the clock, I took the carbs out and cleaned those years ago but never got the bike all the way back together, got fed up trying to figure out how to fit the fucking rubix cube of a battery box back into the frame. Hopefully I can get the shit running again.

Hey Max, I've learnt a lot from your videos and really appreciate all the hard work you put into your channel. Got a question not completely related to this video but hope you'll have a sec to reply. Just bought a 1994 suzu DR350 30000km on it (Vancouver BC). Previous owner did "the airbox mod" - cut a huge square hole about 5x5" in the top under the seat and rejetted from 125 to 136 and shimmed the needle 1.5 steps up (raise the needle). bike pops heavily on decel and plugs were showing a lean condition. I jetted up to 140, shimmed half a step up. Now it runs very rich. So went back to what he had, issue now is when I pull throttle the bike hesitates - sometimes dies. If I feather it gently I can get through and then the throttle will respond relatively well. Until it idles a bit, then its back to hesitation. This gets worse the warmer the bike gets and the harder I ride it and if I come to a quick stop then throttle, it's especially bad. I have cleaned every part of the carb (REALLY WELL - the pilot jet is clear.) and checked for vacuum leaks everywhere, diaphragms are in good shape). What ever combo I do with jets, mixture screw, and needle the bike will run different but the initial throttle issue seems to remain the same. If I can get through the first pull then it will respond fine until it idles for a bit (20 seconds is enough for it to go back to the issue). Momentary rich/lean condition? Petcock is in good condition. I'm lost. If you can offer any advice, man I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
@mrmaxstorey7 жыл бұрын
Honestly the best repair is to replace the airbox and restore jets to original size. You can continue to tinker with different combinations of pilot jet, A/F screw, main jet and needle height, but the horsepower advantage is negligible on this bike compared to stock. Besides, if you use your DR350 like I use my XT550, you definitely want that airbox water tight. Good luck
@nocollabs56607 жыл бұрын
mrmaxstorey definitely the smartest thing to do. Thanks for the reply and advice. You're a legend amongst men.

What do you think about using pods? I've heard it's so much better to stick to the stock airbox because even after rejetting then your motorcycle will never run great... etc
@mrmaxstorey7 жыл бұрын
Im not a fan because rejetting is kind of a pain for minimal improvement on hp. However they are good for certain applications, mainly high revving racing. If you want to use them review my video on rejetting carbs

Gotcha, I was tempted when my airbox boot got a hole in it when reinstalling my carb because it is like $160 for a new set... but it seemed like it was more trouble than it was worth. Thanks for the response

@@bc9477 Ahh.... the GPz750 Turbo. What a bike. WAAYYY back in '83 or '84 I got a personal invitation to test ride some new Kawasakis..... ON A RACE TRACK!! Had to put a $10 deposit (which was returned later) and got to ride the Ninja 900 (I think) and the GPz750 turbo. Rode them at Laguna Seca raceway. Got to the straight and I redlined up to 4th, but in 5th was too fast so I had to settle down a tad. Then some dude on a Vulcan who apparently worked for Kawasaki pulled up along side and motioned me to slow down. I'm like, "WTF! It's a racetrack! It's a test ride, right? So let me test it!" hahahaha What a blast!

@johnnyhall70656 жыл бұрын
Man! U should never ever ever charge a battery still on the bike, if anything goes wrong the whole machine could set alight, barn, garage, house, other machines , bad move, bad mistake , your not a novice so why do this?
@mrmaxstorey6 жыл бұрын
Well Johnny, I have heard that once before, and I gave it a moment of my attention and decided that the risk was fairly minimal. Y'see, when the bike is running it is charging itself anyway at about the same rate that my little battery charger is able to perform, so theres no inherently elevated risk involved there if you are worried about an exploding battery. I suppose that the positive clip from the battery charger could slip off, contact a ground and cause a spark, but all of my battery chargers shut themselves down when they detect a short so thats a good failsafe. And, I always cleaned up spilled gas and oil and store my new and used combustible materials outside of the shed, so theres nothing to set on fire anyway. Its a pain in the ass to remove batteries each time I want to top them up, and most of these are set on a trickle charger anyway when in storage, so thanks for your concern but I'm good.
