I just replaced my broken impeller shaft and have brainstorming a kickstarter mod on an 08. The bonus idler gear was a nice find! Great video series. I love the custom engine work mount and clutch tool.

Many thanks - Crankshaft inspection and assessment next... The broken impeller shaft was the thing that prompted me to do the build in the first place. I recon the engine mount is a must for a build like this - you can buy engine mounts, but this just seemed to suit the job. I had a Honda Dominator in the late 80's and that had dual start so it seemed a reasonable thing to do, but getting all the parts on ebay was a rather long wait in the end - Ive only just been able to purchase the actual kick lever after a 6 month wait!

Really enjoying this channel. Insightful and very graphic. I'm considering a rebuild of my KLR650 2009 model, which I ride around Northern Botswana. Please keep the videos coming! Really helping me greatly understand the process to follow!

Many thanks! - Glad you are liking this 'slow TV' version of the KLR engine rebuild!! - If you are doing one yourself, then the Clymer manual is well worth getting and using along side the official Kawasaki one. Ill get the Part 7 Crankcase splitting video up and Ill get one done looking at the transmission - Then there's going to be a pause while I get the engine case repaired and this cannot happen until lockdown is lifted.

If you rotate the shifting arm ccw, it will pop the case loose. That’s an aluminum cover and easy to gouge.

I am not sure but I noticed as you removed one of the last friction plates, there was no steel plate in between. Is that the way it's done or a mistake?
