Working on a 1999 Kawasaki KLR650 with a failed factory doohickey/counter balancer chain adjuster. A quick video of what a broken one looks like and what happens when it does.

22+ appears that the springs are worse. EM kit needed.

I’ve not had a new one open yet, but I hear that the springs just lose their tension after 3000-5000 miles but the actual tensioner piece is made better.

The ONLY improvement they did was upgrade the actual cam that the spring holds. The spring itself is still junk and loses tension/breaks.

Pretty much yes. I’d be more concerned if it just went quiet lol

Not so, springs are breaking at 4k. Out of adjustment also at 5k.

This is as common as mud, the collar is known to fail on all years, the spring breaks and the collar gets heavy wear, becomes sloppy and it snaps off, into the sump, then drive force will slacken the lock pin , the chain will fly around eating the guides and eventually derail then your balacer is toast, DO THE DOOHICKEY EARLY!!
