Great video. Looking at getting a 1st gen and this is exactly the type of vid I was looking for.

Hi Al, Congratulations on the new KLR. I never thought a KLR650 would ever sit in my garage or displace the DR650 & XR650L to be the favorite go to bike. Have fun on your adventures.

VW, I just had this video show up on my YT feed. Glad to see your KLR is running great! The Gen 1s are great bikes! I really are with you when you said, "You feel the humidity like on the East Coast" it has been brutal out here in NC the last few days. Looking forward to upcoming mod videos on the KLR. I continue to be amazed at how good you are at finding bikes like these at a bargain price. Cheers!

Top of the morning DOC650, Just having a coffee, enjoying the quiet. Thanks for stopping by. Craigslist and idle time are the devils workshop, I think that is what it says in the Good Book?? Don't really have a clue why I got this? But it is an upgrade over the other one, and the price was right. The old girl doesn't have the corrosion the other has, and is twice as nice. When I sell the other KLR I should break even on the deal and have a nice up grade. I need another bike like another EX? Maybe as I age instead of cats I'll have a few nice duel sports? It's been a great Monsoon year, lots of needed rain, but humidity. A worthy trade off. Maybe some day I'll ride the KLR out and camp in a quiet section of your beautiful woods? Take care Brother.

@@verbalwidget7267 Good Morning to you Dave! I understand the concept of getting something because you just had to have it versus having a need for it LOL! Glad to hear you guys have been getting a good amount of critically needed rain out there. As far as the camping, you are more than welcome to come out here and camp in my woods any time! Have a great week Brother! Cheers!

the gen 1 is still light enough to do some real dual sport stuff and get away with it. Long live the klr

I agree and wish Kawi had gone to a more Gen 1 style bike when they brought the KLR back. But I was on the XR650 yesterday and it is truly a better off road beast. I'm not getting rid of the Gen 1 anytime soon though. It's a hell of a bike.

I wish Kawasaki would do the KLR as a KLR (DS) and a KLR (Adv) Meaning: the KLR DS is more like gen 1 and the Adv like the current monstrosity the KLR is DS: Dual Sport Adv: Adventure@@verbalwidget7267

Very nice gen 1 KLR. For me I like the oem exhaust them. The KLR will never be a fire breather motor and the stock exhaust you never have to mess with repacking plus the quitness on long rides can't be beat.
@verbalwidget72673 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment , I agree the KLR650 is just a run forever work horse motor. We’ll see how long the packing last. I did get the original, mint condition muffler with the bike that I’ll hold on too. Take care.

Man your not too far me (Union Hills & 75th), I ride my softail over there on West side for the same reasons as you do. Not to terrible on traffic and its great for a short ride from the house. I have that same exhaust on my DR just put it on a couple of weeks ago and so far I really like it. I need to do the carb next make it run better.
@verbalwidget72673 жыл бұрын
Hey Scott, Yes your not far from me at all, I'm by the Stadium. I hit the Wallymart on Union Hills near you and AEO. Agreed, the Lexx is nice because a bit more sound, lighter weight at a good price. my XR650 FMF is way to loud and no fun to ride anymore. Santa may bring one for the XR I hope? Take care.

Nice running bike! I go back and forth on the windshield. I finally got my taller windshield to the point where the wind isn’t beating my brains out.( Hand to fab my own brackets to close up most of the space between it and the stock fairing. It is better than getting my chest full of wind from the stock fairing but just barely
@verbalwidget72673 жыл бұрын
I understand the head buffeting with the taller windshield. The first $1200. KLR had a nice tall windshield that I thought would be great! Man was I wrong! It would buffet my head to the point of blurring my vision. No fun! I could feel the buffeting on my chest with the short stock windshield yesterday, but until I watched the video I had no idea it was coming through on the microphone. I actually prefer no fairing or wind screen like I have on my other KLR and the round LED headlight look. I have had a few 300 and 500 mile days on the first KLR and no buffeting just a very tolerable wind blast, but nothing that really impacts the Microphone or ride quality like the fairing set up. I decided I will remove the fairing assemble like my other KLR650 and just go with the round headlight set up on this bike too. I'll box up the parts for the next owner, but I have no plans of getting rid of the bike anytime soon;-) Thank you for watching and the comment. I'll do a video when the bike is done with the upgrades. I already have a few shakedown trips planned for the bike.

Can't believe it took me this long to find your content. Watched your video on exhaust porting and how its stock head pipe sucks, sick video thx for that. I bought ' really stole' a cherry gen1(2007) a year ago had 1900 on its speedo for $1000. Had been sitting in a small airport hanger its whole life. Guy didn't know what he had I think. One short ride on it and I sold my gen2 for $2500. Put a DG slip on exhaust on it, removed the rubber snorkel on its air box and carb tune. Also replaced stock drain plug with Tusk low profile one. First gear power wheelies with little to no effort. Time to break out my dremel and find a head pipe. I just ordered a led head light, bucket and ears 5 1/4", I see you went with 7". Anyway I have lots of plans for my gen1. After fixing the exhaust I think a set of Hotcams will be in order. On my bucket list is to replace stock gauges with the Trailtech Voyager pro. I am slowly making content on my channel about KLR rides at our local ORV park called Wolf Pen Gap. I have some sick raw video to edit still and a lot more planned. No talking just riding, haven't worked myself up to narrating yet. Still getting the basics of 360 video editing and final production. Check it out if you like, some short clips.

I see a bunch of these KLR 650 IN my area. Early 2000's. 10K miles for about 3,000$. Does that sound like a alright deal? I want to go on some dirt roads, and alot of gravel roads.
@verbalwidget7267 Жыл бұрын
Yes that would be perfect. I was looking in the Montana area and they had a bunch of nice gen 1 KLR650’s in the 3k range too I was amazed.

If you decide to open up the airbox you should sell me the airbox door lol.
@verbalwidget72672 жыл бұрын
I drilled out holes in the top of the air box, and left the door alone. I’d say eBay for a airbox door.

@glenbawndog3 жыл бұрын
Nice bike, replace those mirrors asap though! Any reason why you don't filter in traffic? Ride safe 😎
@CurtPottorff3 жыл бұрын
I'm assuming it's because filtering traffic is illegal there in Arizona.
@glenbawndog3 жыл бұрын
Thats unusual. Why is it illegal to filter?
@verbalwidget72673 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention, I replaced those crappy mirrors as soon as I got home, the old mirrors were very distracting while riding. Yes Splitting lanes here in AZ is illegal. When I was in CA a few years ago where it is legal, I followed my friend through the lines of stopped cars. At first it was spooky because it was new to me, but the CA drivers actually are nice enough to give you some room, because they are use to it I guess? I'm personally not in that big of hurry and "for me" filtering is not really worth the risk. Thank you for watching and the comment.
