I never knew a '70's street bike could sound velvety smooth and aggressive all at the same time. Nice work.

Extremely beautiful bike. Thats a really neat turbo installation, it looks stock. In 1979 at the Bathhurst bike races in Australia a z1300 recorded the fastest time through the speed traps in the unlimited production class with a top speed of 241.6km/h.

I've ridden one of these in the late 80's, guaranteed it was faster than this one, it had one of only two ever made specially ground turbo cams put in it and a NOS bottle to make up for turbo-lag, pure evil!!! The guy who owned it was from my hometown and bought it new in 79 and immediately did the work to it, the cam was made by some guy (my friend told me the guys name years ago but I can't remember) who built racing engines for Kawasaki powered race teams, when it was put together back then it was the fastest street bike east of the Mississippi River if not the entire country, all that power on 1979 tires, suspension, and brakes, like I said pure evil, I will never forget the experience of riding it👍👍👍.

Nice shaft drive bike,not as costly as chain with a lot less maintenance. in the long run. I always remember how the whole bike would lift up on it's suspension on a hard take off and gear change, may be because of the shaft. The sound they had I feel was also very unique to the bike, this one with turbo fitted was not to different. Nice engineering done here.

That is gorgeous. I had a '77 KZ1000. This would be such a cool, old school, to have that may give a little run for the new bikes....well, with an inexperienced rider on the new bike. :-)

Seems pretty tractable. I knew a dealer in the mid 70's when the 903 z1 turbo kit came out. It had a nasty habit of going from non boost to building boost REALLY quick, like sky the front end or smoke the tire when it hit. When it did hit it was like a sledge hammer. Bob only had it for a while, knew he'd probably kill himself on it and sold it. He was an experienced rider, but with the handling (which for its time wasn't terrible) suffering from all the added power it wasn't fun to ride.

So this was a draw-through design, right? I'm curious how much HP it made as opposed to the injection version's 200. I'm also wondering about how much the engine alone weighs with or without turbo. Reason being I might go buy one for a project.
@AndieBlack139 жыл бұрын
According to Mr Turbos own website, each pound of boost gives approximately ten horsepower. So that makes for sixty horse added to the factory 120...180 HP total. Also fuel octane must be considered...this low boost level is easily compensated by premium 92 octane. Factory compression is 9.9 CR, but he writes here he is running JE pistons ...but does not note just what CR those new pistons are..?.?
@gurnblanstein4668 жыл бұрын
Probably the same. You up the boost instead of adding more compression with the piston... The higher the compression piston the lower your boost has to be assuming your going to be staying with 92 octane..
@AndieBlack138 жыл бұрын
Gurn Blanstein I'm aware of this balancing act between boost, compression ratios & octane.....at 9.9 CR of this engine, it can stand "some" boost.....but I've seem todays engines running at 10.5 & 11 CRs' .....I'd guess computer management systems , head designs are making for a push right to the edge.....making boost a no-go for these engines without changing pistons. Older engines of course are different in this regard...

I commented some time ago on why on earth would anyone want to fit a turbo on a Z1300. Some guy commented on my remark saying, "He was clearly not an adrenaline junkie, you could tell buy the way he rid it" His words not mine, so excuse the spelling. The point I am making is, anyone can take it full bore in a straight line, but it takes a lot more skill to handle that kind of power going through twists and bends. This kind of power usually is reserved for the track.
