My 1st (and so far ONLY) street bike was an '82 KZ650 CSR that I bought in the summer of '98. It cost me $500, I paid $132/yr for insurance, and $5/wk in premium fuel. I didn't own a car for 2 1/2 years, so it was my daily ride, year round, and I worked 2 jobs. I wish I had the money to fix it when I took it off the road for good, and then it was stolen in '08, along with my father's '82 Honda CB650 Special. I'd LOVE to get another one, because that bike was comfortable and had plenty of power for my purposes.

Hey Keith, good to hear from you, I'll send you an e-mail shortly. One thing I always do on my Z1/KZ engines is remove the tach drive gear from the head when the exhaust cam is removed. When you reinstall the exhaust cam if the teeth are not aligned it can cause serious damage. I reinstall the tach drive gear after the cam has been installed. Cheers, Doug

Looking forward to this one - one piece of advise is keep at it - sometimes on these large projects its hard to keep the motivation going. Just do what you can when you can but keep at it.

Came across your vid looking for a B1, I had one back in the 90s the only problems i ever had were always wiring apart from that it was bomb proof.

It's supposed to be a video of disassembly, but you jump from when it's in the frame to the engine already half disassembled. Am I missing something?
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder Жыл бұрын
the engine was already apart as you see it on the bench, it was just stacked in the frame loose, that's how i got all in bits, so no you did not miss anything,

Well... I was hoping to see how you removed and disassembled the engine. That work got skipped on the video.

The engine was as you saw it just loosely wedged in the frame, it was already split when i got it

Get yourself a set of JIS screwdrivers if you dont already own some. That'll help sh1t loads with the screws. They'll get a proper grip unlike a Phillip's head.

Hello, greetings from Argentina. I have a kz 650 78 'I have had it without running power for many years. Do you think I can start it with little knowledge? Thanks
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 3 жыл бұрын
That is how i started, the Z650 was my first ground up restoration, i learn as i go, as long as you have a manual then you should be ok, mine was a non runner when i bought it, if you dont try you will never know,

How did you remove the cylinder head? I got a 77 kz650 and I can't get it to budge
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder
@TheAmateurBikeBuilder 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Luke, the cylinder head was already off, but if you look at part 58 when i put it back on kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHiVeHqXrayfoMU that should help. i think at about 14 mins there are 2 bolts inside the timing chain gully, one each side, have you removed those ?
