Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R / ZZR1400 - Battery Removal & New Install on 2nd Gens - Detailed & Made Easy

How to video, step by step, on installing a replacement battery on your Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R. This install was on a 2014 (2nd Generation). It is a bit tedious compared to a lot of bikes, but can easily be done yourself with a little patience. Take your time and save yourself some money. Closed Captions available.
Tools you will need:
-4mm Hex Socket or Allen Wrench
-5mm Hex Socket or Allen Wrench
-Ratchet
-8mm socket
-10 mm socket
-Microfibre Cloth

One thing about the zzr1400 battery. It is a pain and fiddly to get to, is there a reason why it is built under the frame and not the seat?

Good question. I have no idea. Luckily this only has to be done every 5 years or so.

@@DeepFryeFilms Yeah, I had my bike 3 years and had to change the battery 3 times, twice in the last 6 months, dam tracker was draining the battery, fitted an optimiser to it and disconnected the tracker.. So getting to the battery was a pain in the a$$😂 Great video 👍👍

@@optimo619 I thought you were joking about the fairing :). I know they are not cheap through the dealership and I am not sure about the quality of the ones on Amazon and Ebay. Maybe try Facebook Marketplace or one of the ZX14R forums and see if you can find someone parting one out of the same generation. Good luck, I hope you can find one. Awesome bike.

Definitely a pain in the ass compared to just lifting the seat on other bikes I have owned. Good to do on a rainy day with a beer where there is no rush :) Sure beats paying labor to replace it at a bike shop as well.

how do you know which battery to use?

You can check your owners manual under specifications. For mine it is a sealed battery mode FTX14-BS 12V 12 Ah. I replaced mine with the stock one from Kawasaki which they had in stock. If you call your local Kawasaki dealership and ask for the parts department and let them know the year of your ZX14R, they will make sure you get the right one. There are after market batteries out there that can safe you a couple of pounds in weight, but I didn’t go that route. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

@DeepFryeFilms I have the same bike since 2013. Until now i have change 5 times battery (2015,2017,2019,2021,2023). The battery are really small for that beast. Specially if you have Motorcycle Alarm + GPS Tracker + Heated Grips for winter. The battery is draining fast and charge slowly. I use battery YUASA YTX14-BS that cost 90€ and not YUASA YTX14H-BS that costs 180€. Which model of battery are you using;

You have your bike kitted nicely for a long trip. The new battery I put in was the YTX14-BS. The old one in there before lasted quite a few years before needing to be replaced. I haven’t had any issues with it draining fast. I do keep it on trickle charge when not in use. Hopefully you will be able to get to the bottom of that. I don’t have any of those accessories that you have.
