Very helpful information. Used this video instruction to add dual USB ports. Nice to have a way to do this without cutting into wires and potentially causing corrosion issues later on. Thank you.

GREAT Vid! Removal of H4 Bulp your way is really easy - thx to your perfect Discription. But if we add a LED with FAN (Osram, Phillipps) it fails about 4mm. I needed to free the Lightmask to fit the Phillipps Pro6000 :-/

Updating the lights to LEDs made a big difference in light intensity - to be seen by cars better. For new motorcycle owners I would recommend to upgrade to brighter LED bulbs. The blinker LED bulbs just needs the electric flasher unit to replace the mechanical flasher unit. Enjoy your riding !

I follow him as well. I have exactly the same 2021 versys like yours (even color), so I know how everything will look after mods applied. I do not expect any discrepancies based on your experience. Dodger's bike is 2019. Potentially it might be some construction or other changes vs 2021 which I do not want to be my blockers during upgrade. Anyway, the more advanced KZbin masters we have, the better ;)

@@antonermakov7529 The Versys X300 bikes from 2017 to 2021 has been mostly untouched. But with your bike the same as mine I would recommend the first thing to do is a center stand. The genuine Kawasaki center stand is expensive but it is the best. At least one other KZbinr bought a cheap knock off and it mounted up so close to his chain he said he took the cheap stand back off. Some of my videos cover the best skid plate to buy based on design and strength. Best of luck in your modifications. My next video will be on the tire upgrades.

@@MrTeerl Fantastic. If you have any questions just ask. It was a simple install once I found the right place to put the horn and only a 4 zip tie mounting. (and a small piece of metal tube with some electrical tape) The compressor was easy with just one angle brace cut down and one bend in it.

Why are there 4 wires coming off of the USB accessory? I know the two going to the barrel connections are included in the kit but what are the other two coming off it for?
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone 6 ай бұрын
At @12:00 in the video I'm talking about the Dual USB charging ports. On the back side I'm pointing to the "Y" spade lugs. Both female lug now providing two male luges that allow for 4 wires instead of the just the 2 that charger provides. So, on each charger male spade lug I've created 2 lugs. One for 12Votes and one for ground going to the bike provided green translucent barrel connectors. The other two newly created lugs (12 Vdc and ground) are the power going up to the phone wireless charging cradle. The USB charger is like a distribution point with the two 12Vdc and the two ground lugs = total of 4 wires. I hope I explain this well enough. Thank you for your question.

After I produced the video at some point later, I found the reason for the bracket. I think I was going through Kawasaki engineering drawings. Thank you for your comment. So, in California the location for the compressor will not work. There may still be room inside the cowl or if not, another location will be needed.

Thank you for making such a detailed video. I have 2023 Versys-x 300. I would like to install a usb charger port and the OEM aux lights. Do the OEM light wire harness and usb charger require their own relays? Thanks!
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone 11 ай бұрын
Step one - take this one step at time to not get in over your head. Ask me any questions about any of this. Only one relay is needed to power up both accessory connections under the left side of the dash. All three are right next to each other (the 2-pin white connector, the 2 translucent green barrel connectors (12Vdc and Ground), and the relay is used to apply power when the bikes key is turned to the ON position. Once you get the cowls (plastics) off the three items will be visible. By the way in the video talks about buying (one purchase) the dual USB - A charger dual ports WITH the Kawasaki relay all together for about $24. That is a simple and inexpensive deal. The big plus is this USB charging ports has the exact translucent mating connectors already on the wires for a plug and play solution. In the text right below the video there is a link for the USB charger/relay that takes you to the Ebay page. Or here it is again: www.ebay.com/itm/402454450844? I have another video on my channel to go into detail on the use of the 2-pin white connector to use 3rd party Aux lights instead of OEM Kawasaki Aux light because many X300 owner find the cost of the Kawasaki Aux light to be too high. Here is the link to that video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moPdfYdqmJmqraM&ab_channel=trekOCLVone

All three items (green bullets, 2-pin white and the socket for the relay) are within a couple of inches of each other. G0 to @11:55 in the video you can see the relay towards the camera from the headlight and right below the relay is the 2-pin white connector and the green connectors are showing hanging down right by the headlight. Within the next minute or so I holding onto the connectors.

Very little changes have been made to the X300 since it released with the 2017 model. In 2020 there was a change made to the ECU to allow a little more range in sprocket changes. (I changed out the front to a 15-tooth rubber bumpered sprocket when my 2021 had 200 miles on it). So, the short answer is the 2023 will be the same for any of the electronics connections under the left side of the dashboard. Check out my other videos on a host of accessor installs. Thank you for your question.

Thanks for the video! If I want to do just the USB charger (I don't have any Aux lights), I see your link to the Ebay page that has both charger and relay. My question is are the crimp on terminals or additional wiring needed or are the bullet connectors long enough on what comes from Ebay to connect to the already existing equipment on the bike?
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone 3 жыл бұрын
If you only are upgrading with the dual USB charger in the dash then the eBay link will get you everything you need. The bullet connectors are with the USB charger and so is the relay and all for $27.95. Done! You will probably need to take off the cowling. Just don't rush it. The windshield is first (4 screws in front), then the small cowl just below the windshield (6 screws - 4 in front and two on the dash board side) then pull straight forward (has some fingers and grommets. The two on the dash side do not have washers. Next the upper cowls on the sides which is held on by only 2 screw one up by the tank and the other one is recessed in the large port on the side of the bike. These upper cowls have 6 of the figers (watch my video) on where they are and dealing with the rubber grommets. Start pulling at the front point of each cowl. They are tucked under the cowls under the seat but you only need to hold back the seat cowls enough to get the figure out from under it. That maybe all you need to remove. If you need to go further they next piece is the inner cowling which has 2 8mm bolts tucked in by the head light and 2 10mm bolts on the sides about 1/2 way down between the handle bars and the bottom. There are a total of 8 of the little plastic rivets (watch my video) that you first push in the middle just about 1/8 inch and you will hear a "click" then they just come right out. 6 of them are down inside by the forks (3 on eachside) and the final 2 are on the sides by the tank and hold this inner cowl to the side cowlings. Start by the headlight and pull up and forward as there is a series of little catches. Then disconnect each blinker cable once this inner cowl is loose. It sounds worse than it is. There are other KZbin videos that show more of the cowls being removed. "Versysx.net" KZbinr is pretty good. Here is his "take off" video link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX27dq2bfZV7qKs&ab_channel=Versysx.net If you get stuck just ask ! Don't forget to count your grommets and use the water/soap hack when putting them all back on.

@@trekOCLVone Thank you very much, yes I'll reference back to your video and others. Waiting on all the LED lights to come in so I can knock both of these things out and not have to tear off the cowl/farings twice :). You've been more than helpful and I'm following you on the Versys Forums as well. Definitely an asset to the community. I took mine on about a 650 mile trip to Two Wheels of Suches in the North Georgia Mountains last weekend and certainly could have used the usb charger. Phone can get very low on battery when maps stay up that long. I just turn down the screen brightness and have it speak into my blue toothed cheap BT S3. It's really nice to listen to music when riding for 8-9 hrs a day. Thanks again and Greetings from North Alabama

@@nathanpepper6293 Thank you for your kind words. The cowling is only difficult for the first 3 times you remove everything. But the forth time you can accomplish the removal and replacement of everything without a hitch ! lol For my next idea I'm going to attach my Kawasaki factory crash bars to my T-Rex Heavy Duty Skid Plate. Yes you read that right. The Kawasaki crash bars are not the best design and bend to easy so to fix that I'm going to connect my genuine Kawasaki crash bars to the T-Rex HD Skid Plate. After that a video of my Versys X300 up on a bike jack only utilizing the skid plate as the platform to raise it up off the floor for wheel / tire removal. This will be fun. What can possibly go wrong? (famous last words)

@@trekOCLVone Haha, yes, famous last words. Have you or do you plan to put a center stand on your bike? I carry spare tubes, but I'm afraid in the event of any flat I'd have a monster time trying to remove the wheels without one. I know it's easy to mount, just searching for which brand to get. It of course will make cleaning the chain much easier than rolling the bike around as I currently do.
@trekOCLVone
@trekOCLVone 3 жыл бұрын
@@nathanpepper6293 The very first thing I did was put the genuine Kawasaki center stand on my Versys X300. What really made that decision tough was the $299 price from Kawasaki for the center stand when Amazon has a dozen seller offering knock off center stands for less than $100. BUT - at least one of the Versys owner with a KZbin channel has a video on the knock off stand on his bike and the clearance from the stand (in it's up position) to the chain is like way to close. This sounds like a really bad idea as chain stretch an I can see a major problem with the stand and chain coming into contact. It was so bad the KZbinr took the knock off back off his bike. So you get what you pay for. Get the Kawasaki stand or maybe a name brand equivalent like T-Rex or S W MOTECH as those brands I trust. The stand should be priority as the only thing it can't help with is the removal of the front wheel. But most flats seem to be on the back. Always the back.

If you are starting with a stock bike. Meaning there no electronics/lights added to the bike then - Yes you will need the relay. The video explains the two Kawasaki prewired provisions under the headlight cowls - the first is the white two pin connector provided for the Kawasaki Auxiliary lights and the second is the green bullet connectors for the USB (or Kawasaki's overpriced 12 volt cigarette style socket). In the text below my video click on "Show more" and there is a full build break down of all the parts. With your question being is the relay needed for just the USB charger - Yes you will need the relay. The relay that I chose comes with the relay at one purchase. It is everything you need for a dual USB port dashboard unit and the relay for $26. And it is for the Kawasaki so it has the two green bullet connectors. It is plug and play for the charger and the relay. There is no cutting up any wires or modifications. Simple install - well the cowls need to come off. If you have any questions about that I can help. I'm proficient as all the cowls being removed as I've done way too many times. The LINK: to the charger/relay on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/402454450844?

If there is a need to have me video just the removal of the windshield, top cowl, large side cowls and the innner elongated cowl that looks like something from Starwars I can make that a separate video. That would be a long video by itself. However, I've not be asked to do that by anyone. Now on to my response to your comment - OK - So, if I tried to include a fastener-by-fastener dismantle this video would be way too long. This video was a collection of installs but concentrates on the Air Horn. I pick up the larger side cowls and discuss the little fingers and show where the rubber gromets are on the side of the gas tank. At @10:35 I point to the grommets on the bike with a tip to use Dawn/water to get it back together much easier. I also give advice on the little plastic rivets and show to punch in the center then pull them out. I did talk about a lot of ground with as much detail as 30 minutes would allow. I check all the comments and I'm here to help and answer any questions you might have. If you want to get your X300 setup and ready to take off the plastic cowls and you want me on speaker phone, I'll be the best help desk you ever heard of. Seriously - this KZbin channel is here to help in any way possible. We can face time if you are an iPhone owner. How is that for support? So, there is no pity - just a total stranger that will jump in and help with you X300 upgrades. Need me ? I'm here for you. Thank you, Dave
