Another good video thanks. Carb removal and particularly the reinstall is a horrible job to do! At least I believe I found the problem for the lumpy engine idling, which was one thoroughly blocked pilot hole that connects between the bellmouth area and the main jet and it took compressed air as well as a single strand of very fine copper from an electric cable to "drill" it out. Anyway I found using one steel plate over the inlet rubbers worked best for me because these rubbers cannot be compressed anyway. The airbox rubbers can be compressed, so I was only really fighting against these in the knowledge that the other side had the plate there to smooth the way. One final thing I found extremely useful for getting the airbox rubbers back on properly as well as the spring bands that secure them to the carbs, was to get a 3mm welding rod, put a 10mm long 90 degree bend at one end and also flatten about 5mm of that 10mm long bent section using a hammer against the top of my bench vice and then using it to guide the rubbers on!!

I have been wanting to remove mine to drill out and adjust my idle air screws. The idle is a little lumpy, and I have adjusted the screws on my other bikes and it helps a lot (usually 3/4 to 1 turn out) - the bikes seem to idle rougher with having to burn the 10% ethanol.

Actually you CAN back up the air box by unbolting it then pulling it back with a ratchet strap. You’ll gain a centimeter or two, which is huge in this instance.

hi i am trying to establish what goes on what on the air intake nipples at the back of the carbs. Thereare four nipples on has a pipe on it which i believe goes to the petrol tank are the other three just capped off with the black covers or are there more pipes to go onto somewhere else. Hi, thanks for the comment, I don't have the bike anymore since a while so I don't remember exactly but I guess that the other 3 are only to sync the carbs and have to stay with the plugs on. 😉

I was wondering how is this bike suited as first motorcycle taking in consideration it's 1100ccm after all ? I passed my exams on hornet 599 here in Europe we call it Hornet 600 and I saw they are approximately same kw and hp.. 95-98 hp. I am 32 years old and have no desire whatsoever to twist that throttle or break any speed records, would mainly use it as a city commuter. That said I am 6.2 feet tall and I really REALLY like the looks of this motorcycle. Would this be suicide choice for a first motorcycle?

Hey man! I like the look of that bike too, actually I like the 1200 even more and they look real cool a bit modified as superbikes... now about your question: you seams to be a pretty big guy so the size of this bike shouldn't be a problem... you probably looked funny on the Hornet :-) Now the only thing to keep in mind is that it is a pretty heavy bike! It's for sure not bad when you're riding it and it's super comfortable and fun to drive, it has enough power and some good torque. Now you just have to see if you are OK to deal with the weight in the city. If yes I wouldn't see why you shouldn't get this as a first bike... at the end if you're not driving stupid and you're responsible any bike would do! Hope that I could help you a bit... The best would be to find one in your area and test drive it. ✌

Things got serious when you rolled out the IV stand! Were the carbs tough to slide out and back in? I take it that the air box will not come out first (like most bikes)?

Hi! Turned out that pushing the rubbers into the airbox to take the carbs out helped a lot, you also have to take the 3 screws out on top of the box to back it up also much as possible against the frame! Then the carbs can go back and slide out to the right pretty easily. To put them back you first have to pull the rubbers back out of the box, then find 2 thin pieces of metal sheet that will fit in and be long enough, place one in the front and one in the back in the bike, and slide the carbs back in between the 2 plates! That work super easily for me! You might need to hold the plates with both hands and push the carbs in with your knee but that works good. Make sure you put your throttle cable back on the carbs before doing this! Super hard to do it in the bike... If it's not long enough open the throttle assembly on the bars to pull it more. @@kimikahara5582 struggle... Haha I can not really remember now if its possible or not but I think it's really difficult to put the cables back in when the carbs are already in... I mean try to open the throttle on top to have a bit more play with the cables but if this doesn't work I'm afraid to tell you that you might have to take the carbs out again... Try to use that metal plates trick I mentioned above, it might help. Good luck :-)

Best would be to get someone to help you to analyse the noise and then open the engine for you and check everything... Hi, it's been a while honestly so I'm not too sure but I think after tacking the carbs out and you better put them back on before installing the carbs back as there is very little place to do that with them in place... It can get very frustrating. Maybe choke cable has to go first as its shorter I think but I'm no longer sure. Hope that helps. Good luck 😉
