Why wasnt this model offered in the USA? It could have easily competed with the Bandit and FZ1.

Since the engine comes from the ZZR1200 or ZX12 Ninja, it should not be hard enough to bring up 158.8 BHP hidden from the original ZZR engine.

Have you seen any books on the topic of lineage and parts interchangeability?

@@impalaSS65not that easy to customize, since the zzr and zx12 use different cylinder heads and downdraft carburetors, which makes fitting these heads on a zrx quite difficult. Doable, but complicated.

@@thilo7546 I read the zrx1100 and the zx11 had the "same" basic engine (zx11 6-speed though, I think). The zx11 cams supposedly drop right in. The 1200 was much less tunable than the 1100 - according to a distant friend that owns a ZRX1100R since early the 2000s. He did the ZX cam swap and much more. Whether it was ZX12 or ZX11 cams, I'm not certain.

The zrx1200r (and 1100r) was offered in the US. Same bike, different fairing, different clocks. The 1200s had much better fairing. The 1200r looks sexier. On the 1200s going flat out at 240kph is no problem. My brother did seldom go beyond 160 on his 1200r due to lacking aerodynamics. The 1200s double headlights are great, which helps going fast in the darker months. 1200s is objectivelly a better bike, but does not have the visual magic of the 1200r. When I was on FB, in a ZXR-group, I noticed the US-owners rarely/never had any high speed gear in their selfies. Jeans, sneakers, some fashionable leather jacket and a helmet. Fairly often an open helmet. Also quite often had sissy bars and highway pegs fitted. I concluded the US owners were all show, no go, So in that case - an aerodynamic fairing above 100mph isn't a priority I guess.
