Kawasaki zzr600 vs Yamaha Fz1 drag race

Me and my dad running at Jackson hes in the far lane he ran a 11.24 @ 128 and I ran a quicker but loosing 11.06 @124 gotta work on my tree

I love my zzr600, 1st gear is good to about 60 something. And it just keeps going from there. I've surprised some friends on bigger cc bikes. :)

Well that my pops riding the fz1 and he's about 60lb heavier than me so I got a big advantage there, but with me riding the fz1 I can turn 10.5s 10.6s all day long on a stock wheelbase. My 600, with it decked out now turns 10.8s on a good cool night. The video was shot right after I had bought the bikes.

those are good times I have found that a bikes times are 1 second slower in real life as times set by factory are with pro racers and most are 1 second minimum slower due to not knowing how to launch a bike. i have beaten 1000cc bike with 600cc bikes but I have done some drag racing and I am 60 to 100 ft ahead fast as I launch 100% better than average street rider. Like I said those are good times you clocked most riders from street cannot get a 10 flat bike in the 10s at all usually mid to high 11s cause they do not launch most bog or wheelie and the wheelie guys have to let off. Bogs are just slow. When you see a guy spinning rear tire a bit carrying front tire 8 to 10 inches off ground on launch you have found a guy that knows how to launch on a drag strip. he or she is making time fast, and winning against faster bikes due to skill. Bikes unlike most race vehicles require skill to drag or road race. I have see small bikes on drag and road tracks eat faster bikes due to rider skill. drag is mostly launch road course is all corner speed and braking

ive got a 09 fz1 2nd gen fuel injected .with full yosh system ,pc5 , speedo healer, k&n air plus the air box mod. ive spanked many liter bikes that think touring bikes are slow. 600's never stand a chance . only bike that ever pulled on me hard was a moded busa. all in all the fz1 has wicked power for a sport touring bike. nice vid tho !!

Just exhaust and lowered a bit but that wasn't even a good launch for me I'll get another vid next time I can launch alot harder now ...this bike is just a good seed I've smoked new 08+ gsxr600s and r6's all day long

@floyd the fz1 is a 01 its a carb bike bit it just has a gyrt slip on but it doesnt have any mid range problems my dad weighs about 70-80 pounds more than me plus his bike is heavier but he has about 60 more hp it makes a pretty even race and it comed down to rider

What exhaust R U running? Is it full system, or slip-on muffler? [I have a '12 FZ1, but have not done any drag racing with it.] I am also looking at an exhaust change, along w/ air filter change & Power Commander V. I have thought about a sprocket change 4 faster starts, but hate 2 raise interstate RPMs ... I already wish top gear was a good bit lower RPMs, or had one more gear as an 'over-drive'. I do lots of interstate and open highway riding...at speeds well into that over-drive range... (-:

@@daytonraught629 at least here in Europe, the fzs 1000 is the one in your video, with carburetors and tubular steel frame, while the Fz1 is the next version with injection and naked. the version with fairing of the FZ1 is the FZ1 FAZER. also here in Europe, the zx6r is the one in the video, while the ZZR600 is the SPORT TOURER, with the raised semi handlebars which was also produced 250cc, 1100cc, 1200cc ..... and the latest is the ZZR1400. Un saluto dall Italia ✌.

The Yamaha weighs about 485 lbs. {stock} vs about 425 {depending on yr model} So, we are looking at about 50 lbs. extra weight for the Yamaha. Also, it is geared differently, and it's power band is configured differently, with more mid-range and less top end rpms. So the yamaha needs to do LOTS of work in the middle so the Kawasaki doesn't catch/pass on top end.

Gen1 FZ1 weighs in at 509lbs wet. You could save some weight by running a lithium battery and a few gallons less in the tank.

MriDuffy at this time it was just a shortened stock can that I had cut down and repacked with kwool. Now it has a part of a CB750 megaphone that I cut and welded to the stock header and made a removable baffle for when we're at the track. Sounds 1000 times better now. I need to post a video of the exhaust now because I recently just got this bike out and started riding it again.

Yeah that would be sweet. I'm actually looking at buying one of these man. Its a clean title 2008 zzr 600 with 25k miles for $1600. Talked him down to it he was asking $2200. It needs a rear tire, has some dents in the tank and the fairings are kind of scratched up. Only thing stopping me is the carbs, but if you still have the bike and its running that must mean its reliable?

MriDuffy can't beat em dude ... I paid 1500 for this one and it had 3026 miles on it so I got a steal but as far as the carbs go that's a non issue ...i can do all the work on it and tune it myself with just basic tools. The only down side to carbs is you can't just jump on it and take off in the winter until it warms up but right now while it's warm I can hit the starter and it'll start without even choking it

That's interesting. I thought the Yamaha had loads of top end with that R1 motor, which puts out around 50 bhp more than the Kawasaki.
