Just bought my first Kaweco sport the other day with an Extra Broad nib, delighted with it. Now I'm eyeing up the calligraphy version with a 1.5 mm nib. Thank you for your informative video.

I just got the 1.1mm italic for my Sport Classic after watching your review. Such a fun nib. I like that it comes with a black section. Now I can use the pen as an eyedropped without having to see that little bit of ink that always gets trapped in the section. Anyways, thanks for the great review!

Seems like a good deal to me, and a very portable alternative to the long thin calligraphy pens. I really do admire the basic Sport, it's a bona fide classic design. Something which would be interesting: a review of the highly regarded but decidedly inexpensive Manuscript pens, which come from the people who supply Leonardt dip nibs. They don't seem to get much attention.

I am a professional calligrapher of 35 years; I have never used these pens. I use Speedball C-Series dip pens almost exclusively in my work. The only calligraphy 'fountain pens' that I own are a set of Pilot Parallel pens which are extremely versatile. However, I seldom use them. I always go back to my tried and true Speedballs.

I am just a beginner, but from what I've learned so far, this in the video is not calligraphy but handwriting with a broad nib? no basic strokes? or am I confused since the word itself means "nice writing"? :)

yes, and they also are on the ice and a couple of the sport arts too. i prefer the look of the silver trimmings compared to the gold but they are all great pens though and afordable too. just luv 'em!

Funny thing is that when I first started using bottled ink, I thought that it would go much faster. Yesterday, I just threw away first empty bottle. After 4 years. It would probably go much faster, if I wasn't buying new colours. But for now, I'm done with blue-black. I seem to be entering Waterman Havana phase. I really love that ink, although the ink itself is a little nasty.

A calligraphy condom! That's hysterical! I'm not a calligrapher but I was wondering about the amount of ink a 2.3 would go through. I imagine you have to change those cartridges out fairly frequently if you were writing a long document?

Nice videos, as a starting writer, I learned lot of new info out of them. Is it possible to equip a normal(f/m/b...) kaweco replacement nib, or do I need to buy another kaweco sport pen?

The short barrel poses no difficulty in holding the pen while posted, but since calligraphy drains ink much faster than conventional writing, a larger cartridge or converter would be desirable.

Yesterday I received a 1.1 nib unit. After cleaning it took quite some time to get decent ink flow with Lie de The, but I wonder if that may be due to using the less than optimal nipple match with the Monteverde mini-converter. Might ED conversion or cartridges provide increased flow? After seeing this I may have to order the complete set as I intend to try my hand at basic calligraphy. : ) Thank you, Stephen.

It might improve, but don't forget that a broader nib uses up a lot more ink, so drying out due to air replacement issues is more pronounced.

I have a question for you. It is at the end of my explanation. After watching 80+ of your videos, I went to the only fountain pen shop in my city and tried over 30 fountain pens. It was one of the best experiences in my life! I was about to shell out $375 dollars for a Graf Von Faber Castell Guilloche Cheveron fountain pen. Because the pen danced across the paper. I LOVE that pen! My hands are 16cm long and petite. And the pen was light enough for me to use in my art work. Anyhow, I asked the owner if he had any other nibs besides fine or medium that I could try. He did not! But he did have a Lamy Joy 1.1mm and 1.9mm calligraphy pen. The whole ballgame changed once I tried the Lamy Joy 1.9mm calligraphy pen. A new part of my soul woke up! I no longer wanted the expensive pen. I wanted the beautiful effects from the 1.9mm nib! I really want to write with a calligraphy pen everyday! My question is do you recommend the Kaweco Sport Calligraphy set with 4 nibs 1.1mm,1.5mm,1.9mm and 2.3mm over the Lamy Joy Calligraphy set that only has 3 nibs? My second question is are the Kaweco & Lamy nibs true italic flat nibs or are they rounded cursive italics or are they stubs? The man at the shop told me the Lamy was a stub. I am not sure if he knows what he is taking about. I hope you can clear that up.

Glad you're enjoying the videos. I would recommend the Kaweco set, especially as you have smallish hands: the Lamy Joy is a big pen (albeit well-balanced). I love the Kaweco nibs, and they perform very well. They are true, flat italics, so without any tipping material.
