Excellent job, both in laying out why the “problem” and explaining your “solution.”

PenBoyRoy - the Kaweco Sport is not only a great beginner pen for the reasons you state, but, it is also a great pen for non-beginner FP users like me for example. I usually like and use the MB 149 fp or the Parker Duofold Centennial FP. I love and find myself using the Kaweco Brass Sport pen. It is a wonderful pen for all levels of FP users. Thanks, Roy for a wonderful review.

5 reasons I like my Kaweco Sport to always have with me for quick notes in a custom shirt pocket note pad provided by my crafty daughter. At my desk, another pen. Walking around needing to jot a note Kaweco Sport. (I have two brass pocket pens but they are too heavy to carry daily in my shirt pocket, however they write great at the desk). Tools need to fit the job at hand. Another good vide, thanks for your work.

I didn't get a Sport for years, but once I did, I got too many! I love that they have a small capacity so I can change inks all the time (no converter--they are totally useless. Just refill cartridges). I mix and match them, have a custom two pen sleeve that fits in my pocket like a wallet, and they are my work pens. Even though I'm not a Chinese pen fan, I am glad I got mine before the Moonman nonsense. It did not put Kaweco in a good light.

That’s great! It’s fun to shop like that. That used to be how things would go for me once I found something I liked as well! 💸💸💸 These days, I have to pick & choose my ‘extras’ much more wisely… no more ‘one in every color’, ‘one for a friend’, ‘get one for Mom’…😉 (Currentky saving up for the Kaweco Iridescent!) But I definitely understand how quickly one can amass a large collection in the blink of an eye!

After I bought crappy supermarket fountain pen, I almost gave up. But then I bought Lamy Safari but that didn't do it, then I bought a Kaweco nice but that didn't do it either, then I bought a Pilot Metropolitan, and yes that was the pen for me...and still is (Affordable, weighty, and that consistent fine line)

This is exactly why there are different entry level pens! If you really love Metros, dm me. I hate mine, but still want them to have a good home. I'll send them to you for free, no joke!

I had one of these in the Burgundy color & LOVED it. Eventually the plastic threads wore out and it fell off of my shirt (I had the optional pocket clip) at the grocery store, leaving just the cap clipped to my shirt before I realized it. I never found it. Still want another one.

My Kaweco Sport sucked. It turned me off fountainpens for five years because the nib was super dry. Its really annoying when you buy a product that doesn’t work. Even worse when the people who sold you the pen tell you „it’s writing - what is your problem?“

For me, it's turquoise or any combination of blue or green (with just blue as a backup).

I think the biggest detractor from the sport is the corporate direction kaweco has gone. Going after moonman was really petty and makes steering clear from kaweco an easy choice.

Not sure what the Moon Man situation is, but I'm just reviewing the Sport based narrowly and solely on its pedigree as a fountain pen. I'll look into it though. I am curious what you're referring to.

Moonman was my favorite name for anything, ever. Thanks a lot, Kaweco. You dang well better release a new pen named Moonman!

They own the Moonman name, and forced "Mojohn" to re-brand. It was petty bs.

My take is a little different: Two Definitive Reasons not to begin with a Kaweco Sport: 1. Price. It is WAY too expensive. Price should be under $10, if not under $5. 2. Filling mechanism. It has one. Furthermore, it's a cartridge, which you will stick in and not know it takes time for the ink to saturate the feed and nib. You will try to write with it immediately and it won't work. Worst possible intro to fountain pens. I started out with a Copic Drawing Pen. Disposable. It lets you cut to the chase: open it and write - do you like the way it writes or not? If not, go back to your BiC. If yes, use up the pen, problem-free, solidifying your enthusiasm BEFORE confronting decisions as to filling mechanism, etc. Any disposable will do. Actually I would recommend the Pilot Varsity over the Copic, as a more universally known and respected brand. And without that scary word "Art" in the name.

The nibs are not 5 or 10 dollar nibs, but obviously ymv.

The price is line with other German manufacturers. Remember, their production rate is faaaaar lower than that of platinum, pilot or sailor, which are both infinitely larger companies and deal in much larger volumes. Now I’m not saying it shouldn’t be cheaper, I’d love any pen to be cheaper. But I don’t think kaweco have the setup to make it any cheaper.
