Crappie Catch and Cook Video Summary
We hit the lake in today’s Michigan kayak fishing video. We did some kayak crappie fishing and then showed you how to cook them up at your campsite. We will show an easy catch and cook fish recipe you can use at camp or at home.
The day was a bit overcast, and we had some calm waters, which can be challenging when trying to find the perfect spot to take your kayak.
Use light gear when you are fishing for crappie. They are not giant fish, so you do not need heavy-duty equipment to bring them in. Also, since crappie is fast, the lighter gear will help you reel them in quicker.
For bait, I use Bobby Garlyn 2-inch minnows. Crappie loves these little guys! In no time, I had lunch caught and ready to go.
Crappie can be tricky to catch, as the schools like to move around the lake. Don’t be married to one spot, or you will not have a successful day. It is also important to remember when fishing from a kayak, try not to move around too much.
Along with the crappie, I also caught some bluegill, some of my favorite fish. You can use similar gear for them, as they are also smaller fish. Soon, I was ready to paddle back to shore and cook these fish up!
