Kayak Fishing Pacific City. We are kayak fishing at Pacific City in Oregon. In this video, I provide tips and tricks to catch rockfish, lingcod and greenling on lite tackle. I also show how to store your gear efficiently to increase your fishing time on the water and minimize the time spent retying your gear. This was another awesome adventure with limits of rockfish, and several lingcod and greenling as well.
This video was filmed on July 5, 2020 before the selective rockfish closure on July 20th.

Drew and Charlie, Thanks for watching and your comment. I love Fisherman's Marine. I should have a large portion of my paychecks just go straight direct deposit over there. I love supporting our local businesses. If you ever need somebody to sponsor, I'm your guy!! Thanks for your support.

I listen to your videos all day at work , I am a professional pet groomer in Boise Idaho. I will be visiting Lincolin City in May, and will be looking at possibly of moving there in the next year or so. My mother is from Coos Bay, and I love staying connected with the Oregon Coast through so many great people and adventures! Thank you so much, Monica.

Monica Jensen, Thanks for watching and your comment. Coos Bay is one of my favorites for kayak fishing in the ocean out of Sunset Bay and for hunting mushrooms near the coast. Good mushroom hunting in Lincoln City as well. Pet groomer sounds like a fun job, aside from an occasional bite, I suppose. If you are visiting in May, morel mushrooms will be in season in the cascade range, and also some good fishing opportunities here too.

Great video! Do you know if those minnow will work with surf perch beach fishing ?
@DADventurerNW
@DADventurerNW 2 жыл бұрын
Iamalemontree, thanks for watching and your question. Yes they do work and they come in smaller sizes. For rockfish, I use the 4 inch minnows, but for perch, I use the 2 inch and smaller jig. They also make berkley sandworms that are awesome for surf perch! Good luck.

Nice Vid! I’m curious as to how you know the surf won’t be too bad that day at the beach. I live out near portland so heading out there and guessing if it’s good or not isn’t really an option.

Paul M , thanks for watching and your comment. Nothing worse than driving and hour and a half to the beach and arriving to big waves. There are a few tools I use to make sure or at least as sure as I can that the conditions will be good. First, www.magicseaweed.com is a surfing forecast website. You can look up Cape Kiwanda or wherever you want to launch and see the conditions for the next 7 days. It will forecast the size of the first and second swells, direction, periods between waves and wind. The forecast changes often so I start watching a week ahead of time and then check the day before to make sure. Secondly, the Cape Kiwanda RV park and Pelican Brew pub both have live beach cams where you can compare the forecasts to the actuals on the beach. These two tools keep me pretty successful on getting in and out of the water safely. Let me know if these help you.

Super interested in your rod holder setup. Did you just take a 3 rod holder and bolt it to a standard rod holder to get it to tilt like that? I have been looking for different ways of being able to carry an extra rod or two and I think that might be a good approach. I haven’t been out to PC yet, but hoping to sooner or later...
@DADventurerNW
@DADventurerNW 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jason Fornelli, thanks for watching and for your question. You are more or less correct. The rod holder is homemade. Couldn't find anything made commercially so the MacGyver in me went to work. It's a three rod holder, and a scotty rod holder, with some extensions. I also stole the "gears" out of one of the opposite ends of the connection and epoxied it to the three rod holder so it would tilt and lock into place. There are also bungies for each rod to hold them in place. I like to lay the rods down horizontally going in and out of the surf, in case I roll. These have been super functional and allow me to not only keep more rods on the kayak, but also keep the high up out of the salt water splash.

do the pool noodles actually work for floatation on gear?

Sam Haiyupis, thanks for your question. I only have a large pool noodle on my net and it floats it just fine. Haven’t tried it on any other gear yet.

Just curious about the manufacturer/model number of your spinning rod and lighter power casting rod that you used in this video.
@DADventurerNW
@DADventurerNW 3 жыл бұрын
Adam M. Thanks for watching and your questions. My jigging rod is a Shimano Trivala S 10-30lb with an Okuma Cold water line counter reel. The spinning rod is a Diawa trout rod 6-10 lb rating. Can’t remember the model. Jigging rod has 50# braid and the spinning rod has 25lb braid. I love the lighter rods and have pulled in some huge fish with them. Let me know if you have more questions.

I can't fish that side of that rock with all the flies and smell of the bird shit. How were the worms in the fish? I tend to find more worms per fish when I catch fish near the "white" side of the wash rocks.
@DADventurerNW
@DADventurerNW 3 жыл бұрын
Hey C_INSAYN, Thanks for watching. You are right, that side of the rock gets a bit funky some times, but it wasn't bad that day. Wind was moving away from me, I suppose. No worms in the rockfish that day, but I find a few in the big rocks once in a while.
