Kayak Fishing the Puget Sound for Resident Coho 6/3/2023

Got out on my Old Town 106 PDL kayak to try for some resident Coho. Fished area 10 near Edmonds Marina Beach.
Lost several fish and released two blackmouth.
In spite of leaving with no fish, it was still a great time. I hope to get back out there soon and share some successful landings.

What weight are you using on you DR? I’m looking try the Puget Sound here soon, any gear you recommend to keep on the yak?

In this video I have a 4 lb ball. Though I recently got a 6 lb ball just for the sound. I think the most critical gear is sun protection. You can burn real bad out there. Be sure you have some sort of visibility item whether it is a reflective life vest or a flag or whatever. Just something to really make yourself stand out. Also, have a good whistle.

@@rumblebeerubies347 the ball will blow back. There's no getting around that. You have to get the troll speed up pretty fast for silvers so you just have to minimize blowback as much as you can. When I go out to Edmond I almost always launch from Edmonds marina Beach Park. If not there, then I launch next to the pier.

@@nw_angler, I live in the south sound, so that area up north is all new to me. I have a trailer for the yaks, so I try to stick to ramps. It’s good to see local yak fisherman getting into the action. I’m keeping an eye out for your next video.

Set the hook when your rod loads up good!

Try different hooks. I have heard that the Gamatsu octopus hooks do not work well for Kokanee. Try gamatsu split shot drop shot hooks. They are finer wire.

Pedal faster when your reeling the fish in to keep constant pressure. Theyll tire out faster.

Right on man! I gotta say, as a power boat guy I like the peacefulness of kayak fishing. No motor noise, no exhaust smell… but, I need the speed!

I swapped over to Owner No Escape Barbless hooks for our coho. Seem to help out a bit, also a rod with a bit more flex to it will help keep pressure on the fish. Good luck next time.

I personally never use flashers, i feel like i have the same result but better reeling experience
