So this may be a dumb question. If you are fishing a faster (and deeper) moving river and you wipe out, what happens when your kayak floats down river away from you? Are you just crap out of luck if you can’t catch up to it?
@ChadHooverFishing3 жыл бұрын
That’s a real possibility. It’s usually not that likely though. There are likely things that will create drag, wedge the kayak, etc that will keep it from going very far down streams. You can usually get down stream by walking down the bank and getting below the kayak. That’s worst case scenario, usually just based on instinct you usually keep a hold on the kayak.

@@ChadHooverFishing Thanks. I’ve only fished a really slow and shallow river so far but was always wondering that. Thanks brother. BTW, keep up the series on “Toad Trips”. They are excellent. Loved watching them. Very well put together and great content.

@@ChadHooverFishing For sure. I can’t imagine it being on another level. It’s even great as is. Stellar camera shots, great fishing spots across the country, variety of different kayaks, and lots more. I say well done sir.

It's actually a really good and valid question. My brother this on the Potomac. When he bailed out the last time I made sure he was alright then went after his float. Like Chad said it normally gets pinned up on a rock somewhere. Pending how far down we radio to each other. Then he took the walk of shame back to his float all while getting dogged on the radio.... Lol. Only ½ of fishing is actually fishing the other ½ is memories you make fishing.

What is your top recommendation for a kayak specifically for fly fishing on a mix of class1-2 and tidal rivers. I’d want to put an outboard or electric motor on it.

@Chad Hoover total beginner question for you lol ....I always hear kayakers say that they will paddle down river ....what happens when you have to paddle back to the launch spot and the river current is heavy and fast ? Do you still paddle up river to get back ?
@ChadHooverFishing3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the current, the kayak, your skill level and a ton of other variables. If I ever intend on paddling up river I NEVER paddle back up river. In other words, I would paddle upriver as far as I could and then drift back to the truck, that way you know you can make it back. NEVER take off down and river and assume you will be able to paddle back upstream. Conditions are almost always too unpredictable for that in a moving water situation.

Two anglers with a car at put in and put out point, I've done some upstream trips but get sideways in a rapid and your likely to go over.
