Kayak Rack for Ram 1500

How well did this work out for you? Did the kayaks ride well? Did the rack last very long? I'd like build something like this for my dodge pu and wonder if it is worth while vs spending $300 for an aluminum rack from home depot.

I did a similar unit that has double side rails, one above the bed, one below my tonneau cover rail. The lower rail keeps the rack from coming up and when my tailgate is closed it's it's tight inside and cannot move around. And I have the same kayak. I did the rack for my Nissan Frontier.

I can see the upper mounts with the three screws and the lag bolt. But I can't see how the lower braces are mounted. Can you give me the way those are secured? Thanks
