@Nicholas Glasser there are two screws or mounting points, I basically made an upside down "u" shaped PVC out of 3/4-1" tubing and mounted it so it would support the rear center point or the seat. Doesnt have to be pvc its just what I had. wasnt technical just fitted by eye.

It's a great seat mod but the kayak is way too small to have a raised seat without Outriggers. I raised the seat on a 13 ft tandem and a tiny wake rolled me causing over $1000 in equipment and electronics lost or damaged. Because I got too comfortable.

Man this is so much better then the wet ass. The only thing I hadn't done till now was the seat and I was having a hard time getting into the blind I built. I have the pelican boost 100 kayak that I kept from the sale of my cottage. I wanted to use it this week for waterfowl but its kawasaki green. I already had everything to build my kayak blind. A new roll of burlap, roll of green plastic fencing, camo paint, zip ties, pex tube and a old boat seat from my actual boat and that exact same aluminum square tube. I didn't have to buy anything and in a day it was all done and ready for this weekend! I'm so glad I didn't throw anything away.

I have chronic back pain since my fusion of lower back sitting in a kayak is now very painful. I use to love kayaking. That seat idea is a great. I think if I could figure out something I could straddle I could keep from bending and my back wont hurt while kayaking . I am thinking of maybe straddling a milk crate could work. Something were I am on my knees but sitting on something to hold my weight at the same time.

Those bolts are called thumb screws. They would be difficult to tighten in that position, as you’ve seen. I would recommend using 1/4-20 clamp knobs for easier turning and removing. Just need to find some with the right length bolt shaft. Also I’d use a 1” cargo strap and cut a slot in the seat to let it pass through instead of a zip tie. Doing this makes the seat removable easily if it needs to come off for hauling or storage. Finally, I’d paint the aluminum bar and get some end caps to fit it. Amazon has all these things I mentioned. I think these changes would result in an overall cleaner look.

Looks good. I've always been nervous about setting my seat up higher on the kayak and figured I'd be too "top heavy" and unstable (pelican castaway 116 dlx) causing me to tip over when fishing. I figured lower center of gravity would be best. Is it really not that big of a difference or should I find a smaller seat that may be mounted lower in the inside "channel" (lack of better word). Thanks
@capitolbassfishing4 жыл бұрын
For me it seemed fine, for sure it puts the center of gravity up higher. If you already feel "tippy" then maybe the seat isnt a good idea but I had not problems with this. Then again..always on calm water...river might be another story.

Don't understand why people use screws and not stainless bolts, nylok nuts and large, flat backing washers. Hatches allow you to get your hand inside the kayak. Screws strip out over time especially if removed and refited a few times. Rusty steel screws destroy the plastic threads when removed.
