I did this exact thing with 5th scale RC cars and there are a lot of the hoops to go through that you mention. Maybe this was something that changed since then but I didn't pay taxes on the products...or maybe its dependant on the type of products. Good info.

Great video Joe, I wish I had seen your video before I bought my kayak from China. I ended up buying one kayak with a pedal drive and motor. All in I was at about 1,2000. USD I;m happy with my kayak but your way of buying is way more cost effective. Thank you for sharing you're awesome!!!

I did this last year, forms were a pain with local company for import.. I will try easyisf... I bought 3x in different sizes and keep 2x.. Was only going to keep 1x but my son loved it, he has the "Fater" and I kept the "Marius 10.5". 13' was so freaking big and heavy, so glad ordered a mix. Very stable and loaded with features. Sold the 13' for 1700... Love the 2x we kept, great video. The process was a bit nerve racking with this much money, overseas and worry about importing(fees, fines and paerwork).

Hi Joe, I love the Vicking Marius VK-32 with a trolling motor. Love the attached wheels similar to the Feelfree kayaks. The kayak looks like a Brooklyn kayak that sells for over $1,300. The advantage of this one is the wheels. Any chance you are going to buy anymore of the 10.5 Marius VK-32 with a trolling motor? I would love to buy one from you. I think you could sell a bunch of these and make some good money. Mike

Hi Joe, How did you get them from New York to Dulles? Who took care of that shipping process? (Was it not possible to have them sent to the seaport in Norfolk, VA?) And how did you get your kayaks out of dulles? Are they in like a huge wooden box? Would this be feasible if i rented like a 15 foot uhaul?
@capitolbassfishing11 ай бұрын
great questions...they come wrapped in cardboard and plastic, they travel in a metal container. Luckily they are very tough and hold up well. EasyISF is the place to use for handling almost everything from fees etc. I am not sure how the transport from NY to Dulles happens...it just "happens" - I think it is lined up from the china side of things. Or maybe determined at the port ... knowing the destination, once it hits the port maybe the port manager decides the best way...TBH I dont know. You could ask them (china). Claire Jin was my rep at Viking Kayaks on the alibaba site.

Do you have any knowledge regarding the process to have a hull identification number assigned to imported kayaks. I bought one from Australia that didn't have a HIN. The first watercraft office that I called in Ohio set up an appointment with me to get a HIN assigned but when I called a second office at a different location to see if I could get a faster appointment , they told me that they couldn't assign a HIN. If you have any experience with this, then I would very much appreciate the info.

Thanks Joe, very informative. I was just about to place an order with Vicking ( tandem modular kayak that comes in 3 modules ) however they suggested if I were to ship via door to door service I should pay for them to be boxed (wooden). But if I send to local port there is no need to box. From your experience do you need boxing if you are just buying one kayak? And are vicking kayak of similar quality to hobie?

Mine were on the floor in bubble wrap and paper. All fine. They are robust (plastic) so I dont think wood is needed for a port delivery. They will be ok.
@jameswilliams45666 ай бұрын
Sounds to me that after you pay for the Kayak, shipping , and then the Taxes and any other Fees you could buy one here the US.
@capitolbassfishing6 ай бұрын
Yes on a one Kayak purchase I agree buy US but likely the one you will buy at a similar price will be...you guessed it - Made in China. I buy 3-4 at a time and sell the ones I dont want and the shipping/tax etc scales. So by the time I am done I paid nothing for two of my kayaks...just my time and energy to import them. Its not for everyone. If you have the money, buy US, US Made and get a good one!

You actually need to be a registered boat manufacturer to import kayaks into the country. The US Coast Guard penalise people severely if this is not followed. Ask me how I know..

If you can't pick up at port I'm wondering how bad shipping would be to my house. I'm Midwest based and that shipping could be killer even if i get a batch of them.

Hi Joe, I am buying a Kayak from China. They tell me it will ship straight to my house. The shipping cost is around 1000 dollars. Is this accurate? Where do I not have to deal with anything US shipping ports or customs?
@capitolbassfishing7 ай бұрын
You can get it shipped direct to your door, yes. My thoughts were... if the kayak is say $450 and shipping is $1000 then thats about $1500. If thats the case then why not just buy local...there are 3-5 suppliers that sell them for this much. In my case I bought 4 kayaks, Shipped for the same $1000 (for all 4) so each kayak shipping averaged out to about $250 making their individual cost about $700. Then I sold three for $1250 so My kayak costs were $3000 shipped and after selling three for 1250 each I had $700 bucks and a free kayak.
