You can also change positions on the SUP and move even while lying down or sitting down on the rivers. especially if the distance is long. and the sap is safer in large waves, since it will not fill with water.

Agreed, there are many advantages to SUPs but if you are paddling mostly in a sitting or kneeling position, a kayak is definitely more comfortable and better suited for that. So if someone is not comfortable standing up we recommend using a kayak.

Thanks for a great and informative video. I'm considering the same thing - kayak vs sup. But I feel like standing and paddling would get tedious, especially with a passenger. A kayak gives you more stability and speed with less effort, with the double bladed paddle. So for now I'm opting for a cheap inflatable entry level kayak like intex explorer k2 just to get myself and my wife & son on the water next year.

Yes if you want to go tandem, a two person kayak is a good choice

I use my explorer 10.6 SUP, in Lake huron. Waves can get 2-4 feet tall on windier days. Kneeling for me is most comfortable and efficient, and no hastle in bigger waves. I dont find a need to switch sides with paddle, since if you angle it at 90° (depending on current and wind) you can travel straight, fast, and efficiently. Even the dog loves it!

thanks.. i was confused which one to buy. I already have a inflatable dinghy and looking for a Paddle board or kayak for new experience, with my 2-yr-old son. Definitely going for kayak.

If you just want to go fast, it’s hard to beat a surfski (kayak)

Can I use a Sup as a Kayak? like using a pad like the ones for kayak and just moving as a kayak by sitting with legs in the water?

Yes it’s possible to mount a proper seat with back support on a SUP if it has attachment points. Legs in the water will add a lot of drag, so that’s not ideal. If you plan to paddle sitting down, it’s bettering to just use a kayak.

It’s easier to get back on a SUP, so I would say a SUP is better as a swimming platform than a kayak.

I kayak but I like paddle board more and does my whole family. It is lighter and I can transfer 4 on a van easily.
