@randiholt11786 жыл бұрын
Dylon Gordan I call him incredibly stupid due to the giant boulder that sits at the base. maybe he knew about it, maybe not. we had a lot of rain and it isn't visible. And honestly I don't know how they missed it.

@richardhorwath72105 жыл бұрын
@@randiholt1178 You would be sincerely surprised at how well ww boats and the various techniques involved in waterfall paddling reduce the minimum depth required for a safe descent. You would also be surprised just how much higher water levels can pad out rocks. Boaters often visit these places at low water to check out the landing-- this was a highly calculated endeavor that no one in the sport takes lightly. He didnt just "strap on a camera" and send it...

@videorama212 жыл бұрын
I am a long time kayacker and extreme sports enthusiast and am working up to this on a higher falls. It would be the ultimate thrill to do it over a waterfall that was high like Kjeragfossen in Norway. But, unfortunately without multi-million dollar equipment for absorbing the impact that would be certain death. You end up having to settle for falls that are30-60 meters/100 to 200 feet and sometimes above because the impact becomes too crushing after a certain amount of vertical acceleration,

To anyone who doesn't kayak. They didn't just wake up, see a waterfall, and "huck" it. They made sure of exactly where they were going and was below the falls. Also, relatively speaking, It is not that tall compared to the 189 foot Palouse falls which has been successfully kayaked twice.

They set up their own safety and took a calculated risk which they ended up winning. and there doesn't seem to be a law unless there are signs posted. I wish ignorant people like you realized that most of those people are highly trained in rescue and most likely trained anybody that would of been rescuing them.
@trwent8 жыл бұрын
This was a TERRIBLE job by the interviewer. The two most obvious questions to ask, that were NOT asked, are (1) Are there any rocks that one might hit at the base of the falls?, and (2) How deep is the pool at the base of the falls, and is there a danger of the kayaker hitting the bottom of the pool?
@missprimrose41327 жыл бұрын
That is the CNN mentality!
@ilkacobb13276 жыл бұрын
or what to do when you get stuck under the rocks. That waterfall is notoriously dangerous, people have drowned, falling in from the sides, let alone going over.
@randiholt11786 жыл бұрын
yes there is a huge rock right where he is going over. I'm surprised he didn't hit it. I live in Gadsden, and we have people who have drowned there just walking the gorge, hundreds of feet from the falls itself. There was no law, because who would be stupid enough to do this. The pool normally isn't very deep maybe 10 to 12 feet, but we had a lot of rain when he did this.

I have no clue what the appeal is of that kind of kayaking. How do you or anyone know what kind of rocks (or perhaps lack of rocks) are at the bottom of the falls?? How do you know you're not going to get trapped in some crazy current or pool and be drowned under the water's weight and pull??
@zone4garlicfarm6 жыл бұрын
Whitewater paddllers learn to read the rapids and know where the current will push them from any point on the river. These kayakers scouted the falls at lower flows and mapped their route. Then they waited until the water was at the right level.
@dukeplc12 жыл бұрын
those local laws don't mean a thing, since Alabama's waterways don't belong to a municipality like Gadsden. Gadsden got a lot of free (and for once, good) publicity from this "stunt". I love it.
