It is a beautiful river.. and your video did it justice. My first paddle on the Huron was 60 years ago, paddled it a few hundred times since. Paddled the entire 120 mile length twice. The river stays 60 % in parks the whole way.

Wow!! I’d love to do the entire length! I bet that is a great experience! Thanks for watching! Hoping to spend more time on this awesome river!

@@tridudyonthetrail You can do it a day at a time,, about 20 miles for each segment. Or with one exception, you can camp each night. Canoe camps at Island Lake State Park,, Hudson Mills, Metro Park (1/2 mile upstream from where you launched) nothing around ANN Arbor,, but contact Concordia College about renting their back lawn for the night, Lower Huron Metro Park group camp area, arrange in advance. 14 dams to negotiate? Metroparks has the best general maps of the entire thing. If you put together a large group contact me here,, I may join you.

Thanks for watching!! So, if you’re looking for dispersed camping, the answer would be “not legally”. There are lots of properties on the river and nearly all of them have “Private Property” or “No Trespassing” signs. Also, I’m almost certain the Metro Parks along the river do not have campgrounds (at least until you get to Lower Huron Metro Park which is a looong way from the start of this paddle). You’d probably be better off starting further upstream and camping at the paddle in sites at Island Lake State Recreation Area. Only trick there is you have to have a reservation and sometimes they’re difficult to get.
