I went into an abandoned mine once, carved into a mountain but in ground level, just a few steps in, the cold hit so hard, the temperature dropped so much, I started chiverring, and I was still close to the entrance. I don't know if you commented about it or not and I missed it, but seeing the breath vapor made me think about how cold it would have been inside this mine, filled with water and little to no air vents that could bring some heath on the places you've been to.

I had thought that it would be neat if you could throw a chem light over a ledge when it's dark we can't tell how far down it is. But they wouldn't be biodegradable nor non toxic. As watching a video about divers who went into an underwater cave. When they got down to what they thought was a bottom , they used a weighted line to measure it and went on another 196'. You could use a weighted line or a fishing reel put a Cam light on it let it drop, reel it back up. Or you could take a laser measure. Anyway there's times when I would like to know how deep a pit is.

I'm sure the following applies to abandoned mines just like it does to caves, you can have a pool of water that doesn't appear to be an inch over three feet deep, take a step into it and discover its actually twelve feet deep. Obviously with this mine, you're dealing with water that is too murky to see the bottom, in addition to it being much greater depths.
@jcee22592 жыл бұрын
I've used a fishing reel and weighted line when face down over a tide submerged blue hole. Knotting my reel cord once lead hits bottom and line goes slack, Back on the beach I use a wood yardstick. To wrap my reel line around the wood length counting yards until my knot is in-hand. Then I count any remaining inches. No, this isn't rocket science,
