Kayaking the Llangollen Canal - Pontcysyllte Aqueduct

If you haven't paddled this one, you should definitely add it to your bucket list. A stunning paddle over two aqueducts and through two tunnels all in a 4 mile section of the Llangollen Canal. Including the tallest canal aqueduct in the world, the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the Whitehouse Tunnel, the Chirk Tunnel and the Chirk Aqueduct. Music is "Evergreen" by Geographer.

Great video we have an aqueduct near us Milton Keynes it’s called the Ironbridge aqueduct and I’ve been crossed it a few times it’s magical being that high off the deck floating in water looking at the river down below 😁👍 Happy paddling

So am I! Was gripping it like crazy. Yes, weirdly, even though it is quite a drop, and you are able to lean out over the edge, it fits quite nicely under your shoulder, so it doesn't feel too scary!

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I'm seriously thinking of getting into kayaking in the near future. Will be 63 this July. Great video and yes I have subscribed. Paddling on Loch Ness was very interesting. A Dagger 14ft kayak would be my choice as well canal and sea. More videos please.

What do you do if a barge boat comes the other way?

Right, a good question which does have an answer! All boats and paddlers are expected to show a bright forward facing light when entering the tunnel. We used some bright head torches. Whoever enters one end of the tunnel first should then have priority. Ultimately though, if a barge did enter the tunnel, from the opposite direction. Shouting loud should attract attention in the confined space. Though I suspect the paddlers would ultimately have to back paddle out of the tunnel!
