Eric Walter is a highly experienced kayaker used to dropping some of the biggest waterfalls in the world, always on the hunt for big rivers full of rapids.... water, water, always water. So when we were searching for the most surprising place to send him, the towering sand dunes of Namibia seemed like a fit. Armed with just his paddle and his boat and a few paragliding buddies, Walter hit the dunes at full speed for an all-time (and pretty rare) kayak session in the middle of the desert. #claimfreedom

i've kayaked storm drains, i've kayaked dry grass, i've kayaked wet grass, i've kayaked snow and i've kayaked dirt jumps.... i have attempted kayaking sand but there was to much friction, it was a buzzkill.... Snow and dry grass are the fastest surfaces i have found, later we dug massively long half pipes and spread straw in them about 6 inches deep and eventually we all got hurt when we started putting in jumps

made a sled like thing to slide down a huge dune in the US... Too much friction to get started. Adjusted it reducing friction. Had not considered it might go dangerously fast. It went fast enough that I felt if I fell off an arm would likely break. So I held on to the bottom. Did not repeat. be carful out there. This looked like fun though.

I did that once in southwest Wyoming back in 2002. Granted the sand dunes of Namibia are far larger than the Killpecker Sand Dunes. Saw wild horses that day as well. Memories I cherish to this day.
