How do they safety "subway" for a race like this? Or is it a low risk that you would get washed into that channel?

The race was on Virginia lines this year, whereas Subway is on center lines, so they weren't racing that section

Song choice w recurring lyric “I guess I’m gonna die too young” feels a little tone deaf given that Shannon Christy died here at age of 23, I believe while preparing for this race (which was cancelled that year as a result). Maybe I’m being overly sensitive, but other viewers I watched it w had same thought. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ryan Carroll you are obviously welcome to disagree with my point, but I don’t think it’s fair to say I’m being “extremely critical and disrespectful.” I was simply sharing my opinion, and nothing ab the way I did it disrespected anyone. If me saying it felt “a little tone deaf,” and then admitting I might be being overly sensitive strikes you as extremely critical, I’d argue you are definitely being overly sensitive. I've been involved in extreme sports my entire life, which naturally involves watching a lot of related footage. But it is only with kayaking videos that I have to mute 4 out of 5. The music choices are for the most part, inexplicable. This has nothing to do with not enjoying a particular genre or artist, everyone has their own taste. That's fine. But they simply tend to be cheap, really bad produced tracks that have nothing to do with the footage.

What's an example of a song that would "have something to do with the footage" of a kayaking video?

@@ian_brown Hey Ian. It's not about a particular track, artist or genre. It has a lot to do with the location, scenery, pace of movement etc. It's easier for me to give you examples of surfing videos, if you have patience or interest to check them out. Nordurland with Torren Martyn is an example of a film where the music flows seamlessly with the Icelandic scenery and contemplative feel of the footage. Often understated, without the viewer not paying too much attention to it. Pedro's Bay is another, with an entirely different type of music, but, yet again, it works with the tropical surroundings and retro feel. As for Kayaking, plenty of good stuff out there as well. I'll use 'Summertime on the Sjoa river' by Senders as an example, because the tune is actually not my cup of tea, and would never be on my personal playlist. However, simply because I don't happen to like it, doesn't mean it doesn't work. It does. And I can appreciate the selection, because it fits with the overall feel and was obviously a carefully considered choice. Of course I'm also aware that due to copyright issues, the music selection available to a lot of editors is limited, but using a bit of extra time for experimenting goes a long way. All the best, J

I enjoyed the music..thought it suited the clip tbh..but hey everyone is different right....I use to surf also years ago but in my opinion kayaking is way more technically demanding...reading the river etc...I mean you wouldnt go down those falls on a surfboard right😁especially after 14 pints of stout🇮🇪...but kayakers surf those waves which I'd love to try someday...that river was rowdy👌

Norderlund is a 30 minute FILM produced by a professional crew and with its own soundtrack. Comparing it to a highlight reel of a 50 person local race reeks of elitism. It’s like complaining about a high school concert and saying “It’s inexplicable why they don’t sound like the Met.”
