I am amazed at number of knowledgable freelancers, road warriors etc. who use Starbucks (and other coffee shops, etc) for their wi-fi. I have come across only one of the many people I follow who use their public library for wi-fi. It's FREE and reliable, and in most cities and all counties. You can stay all day at a comfortable (often air conditioned) desk or table. Public libraries, the most underrated resource on the internet. Go to your library website and learn what is available. You can get free e-books, audiobooks, movies, and, yes, WI-FI.
@KayaLindsay7 жыл бұрын
Agreed! I love local libraries! Sometimes they have unreliable opening/closing hours so I often will resort to Starbucks when the libraries are not available. But yes! Libraries are an awesome place to work.

This was honestly the most detailed, honest and helpful van Life how I make a living video. From how you got started, to what you use, to what has worked best for you. Thank you so much for posting. I am seriously considering van Life. I’m a Flight Attendant and I’m considering going part time in order to do so. I figured that I could get 15 days off a month, and work a week. I could travel in between and get to an airport leave my van, fly to work for the week and head back to the airport I left my van and continue on my journey. This video gives me hope that working and van life is possibly. Just have to come up with a plan

Awesome comment, Scott. I left the Corporate World to form a BraveWorld 13 years ago. I did land on my two feet. Can't say I have gotten rich but I am ok. Raised a family, got them through school. Now I get to look at what I will do next. Love mountain biking, motorcycling, hiking and being outdoors as much as possible. As I look through a lot of VanLife videos, it's all young people. Got to say, it is inspiring. Now to figure out how to do the similar thing but not live at RV parks and with people who are old before their time. Good people who get out and explore the world. Great if you know of content for Being Healthy and Adventure in your 50th. Ill keep looking.

Setting up a social media marketing agency is a great option for sure. I'm into digital product creation and affiliate marketing (been doing it for about 12 years now). To anyone who wants to learn about affiliate marketing, I'd suggest typing "Laptop Earnings" into GoogIe. That's probably the best course.. it shares a lot of little tricks that the other courses leave out.

Hi! I would just love to eventually convert to van life, and hopefully live in my van full time, but I was wondering, how do you do taxes, renew your license plate, etc? Are you a state resident to take care of that kind of stuff, or how does that work?
@exitpursued66906 жыл бұрын
I'm super curious about this, too. Doing taxes as a freelancer/small business owner is pretty easy these days with things like Quickbooks, but I'm not sure how it shakes out if you aren't a permanent resident of a single state. Also curious how it works with health insurance, which is dependent on which state you reside in. I would guess she files everything in California, which seems to be her main state?

@AnnaC636 жыл бұрын
I think that's because putting the idea on social media creates a sudden influx of competitors who might actually get good at it within six months to a year and thin out their opportunities. Really a successful idea is valuable and should be given to people you know like and trust not hundreds and thousands of strangers. Look at people making money on KZbin. Now there are so many with their own successful channels they cut what they pay drastically.

I was living with my parents and going to a community college when I started my business! It was very small at first. I made $15/hour and only worked 5-10 hours a week, all my other time was dedicated to school. Slowly I built up my client base and changed the way I do things. I switched from hourly to flat-rate fees, figured out my contract stuff, got a subcontractor etc. I was going to Goddard College (www.goddard.edu/) and working my business to pay for school. When I graduated and finished the van build I switched to full-time travel mode, but it took 4ish years to get to that point! My business is always changing. Even to this very day I am improving and altering how I do things to better streamline the process and make the money I need to fund my life and pay off my student loans!

Hi Kaya! I'm a fellow rock climber and a marketer. I'm planning my escape from the corporate world and have questions about freelancing. First of all, do you have any resources to show me what I should price my social media services? Do you charge hourly or by project? Also, have you ever had problems scheduling social posts on a monthly basis? I imagine if you're re-Tweeting stuff you'd want to keep it timely, so scheduling them a month in advance seems risky.
@KayaLindsay6 жыл бұрын
Hey! I started hourly at $15 and over the years kept increasing my prices until I got significant pushback. My current hourly is $75-$100, but likely to increase or decrease depending on the client (non profits vs high end agencies with a huge budget). I prefer to charge at a flat rate because then I am not losing money when I get more efficient at my systems. And scheduling monthly is what allows me to live a 1 week on 3 weeks off lifestyle. My clients know that's what they are getting when they work with me. I've historically hired someone to do daily engagement like retweets or shares while I'm out of reach. Currently don't have any twitter clients though so it's not an issue!

I know it has been awhile since you posted this video but did you have a degree, certification, take any classes or have a large following of your own on social media prior to making your website? What kind of qualifications would most people be looking for?
@KayaLindsay6 жыл бұрын
I was 20 years old, had no degree, or certification, I had taken no classes, and I maybe had 300 followers on Instagram. I'd just finished hiking the Camino De Santiago and I needed to do something that would make me money while I finished up my degree. I tried working at a cafe for $8/hour and I realized I could never do all my homework and pay for school on that. So I took out a bunch of loans to pay for half of school and sent an email out to all of the people at this coworking space my dad was working at. I offered my services as a freelancer specializing in data entry and social media for $12/hr. Slowly built up my skills and adapted to what people wanted or needed from me and eventually specialized in social media. Got business cards, a website, a contract, figured out how to do my taxes and write off business expenses along the way...Years later I took it on the road and now this is my life!

Jayden Mathews I did not have any formal training. I am all self taught and did my best to navigate the business world/take advantage of the opportunities to learn from others as I could. Lily, thanks for getting back to me and it makes sense looking at it from your point of view. I am a business owner "brick and mortar" and do my own FB page. I do my own content and I enjoy the Interactions I have with my customers "followers"..... good luck in your future venture.
