KG has a personal dance style and it always shows when she does her own choreography outside of majorette☺️and I love it

It even shows when she jsettes which is why her fieldshows have not been liked by majority of the JSU fans. It was not what people were used to. Wasn't flattering.

@@thatsseauxnish_ No that's not all that matters. Those 30K to 50K fans/alumni at the games are who matters. You tryout for Jsette to be a jsette. Not to do your own thing. The thrill on the field was completely gone

She was just what the JSettes...no, what the HBCU majorette dance community needed: (true Sultry) the infusion of improve with a not so innocent touch of Buck. I call it infusion...this dance style that Kayla exhibits - no boundaries, no one thing dominant over the other, just pure love for the art and so she dances. We always made note of it...how that she never really followed the tradition of calling particular counts for a particular song. But you always knew that she was thinking about what worked best for the mood of the song that was being played. You just never really knew what count she was going to call next. Just have control over your body and let your dance tell the story... Dancers have to be able freestyle huh - anything less is really painting by the numbers. Moreover, JSetting has to be able to represent all dance style and not just that "one"... The beauty of the majorette dance style is that it will always produce the best female freestyle dancers that the world will ever see. KG embodies that spirit of body control and freestyle fire that can speak to any and all styles of dance. That's what the HBCU dance community received in her: a dance captain that is fully capable of embracing, mediating and encouraging the best out of all forms of dance from all of the HBCU dancelines. What other HBCU captain spoke or can speak to the entirety of the HBCU dance community and get things done. It's the spirit of collaboration; it just takes someone with fire to lead the way. The thing that I'm still looking for is for her and others to lead that next formalized version of dance camp/HBCU collobaration that was left off from the HBCU dance affair...? Take your time and plan it well - next year right: Corona can't have the last say huh...?

Agree to disagree. KG's style was not what the settes "needed" because they had (sultry) that type of style in 2016 and 2017 which was not well received. KG did not create any memorable Jsette fieldshows.. which was a strong point for them in the past. She rarely ever got an applause, EVER. The crowd would be silent after each halftime show and that's not good at all. Jsettes bring that wow factor. Stunts. Athleticism. Sass. Swag. The only thing that KG was known for was a bunch of arm movements on the field, nothing hard or intricate. Underwhelming. She was a great stand captain, great with stands. But she is not consider legendary in the eyes of true Jsette followers... trust me.

Furthermore, most of the time fans would complain about how her routines did NOT match the songs. It's like she just went and made something up on her own... then applied it to ANY song. Nothing flowed well on the field. Nothing.

@@HH-ji9nv - walk deep with me for a minute I agree that not all of KG's fieldshows were as strong as "some" of the field shows of "some" the other JSette captains of the past, but if your being honest as a so called true JSette follower - not every fieldshow from the past was...beyond reproach. Just because something works or worked does not mean that it can not be made better. Again, I do agree with you that the JSettes have always had a tradition of delivering a great fieldshow, but delivering a fieldshow by itself is not enough to be great in this day and age: HBCU dance organizations must strive to have it all Sync with the band Fieldshows Stands Sideline MarchIn\MarchOut Glamour\Ability to command Attention Herald\Ambassador - locally and Abroad The JSettes have evolved. That's easily seen if one studies any of their older videos. Incredible fieldshows indeed, but I can't quite say the same thing for their stands. If you be honest, the same way older JSettes focused much on creating lively fieldshows, in the same way, KG focused on creating lively Stands: it's all one in the same. The older stands gave you energy and a incredible buck. KG's stands gave you performance and the demonstrative that continually screamed: we run these stands too - thought you knew. KG filled up the part that was neccessary - the parts that lacked...She had her and her girls eating up them stands had some of the best sidelines - The Lion King is "LEGENDARY" to everybody else except to those claiming to be a true JSette lover (go figure...) MarchIn\MarchOut - Get Ready (nuff said...) I just hope that one day all "true" JSette lovers can finally learn to appreciate the beauty of what is as oppose to coveting the unrequited fiction of what is not When Charlotte took the reigns - she was just what the doctor ordered, but manyyyy people doubted her When the crowds called for a brickhouse - Sweet Tee should up and the hate continued When it was time to elevate the JSettes beyond a fierce buck - Providence gifted you all with not one, but two Morgans...this was that infusion of Sultry, but still they hated The JSette are now (cemented) as a global brand and the ambassadors that helped to lead that charge...that helped to make it possible for HBCU dancelines to collaborate with one another...that gave the world that close, personal behind the scenes insight into what it's like to be an HBCU majorette: what is KG and her whole crew for 2000 Alex. Fieldshows are just one part of it, but it's absolutely NOT the whole.

@@HH-ji9nv Innovation, creativity plus syncopation - KG gave that to us in spades. It's difficult to understand if you don't try to look at it from a different perspective. There's an old saying that's always going to dog HBCU bands, but especially the "Brass Heavy bands of the SWAC: "what's the sense of having woodwinds when you not goan use em". Often times it just comes across that HBCU bands just forgot about the flutes and the clarinets. Basically, as long as a majorette dance team got a good buck, they fire. Forget the innovation, forget creativity, forget everything else...just let the tubas play. KG was\is a student of her craft: the elogant HBCU dancer. It's facts that she gave us old counts as well as new and nothing of her delivery was prescripted. As far as her routines flowing dancewise with a song...her routines had great dance counts both in the stands as well as on the field, she just presented field routines that had more improvisation than we've ever experienced. Follow it through - you start off with a good Buck add in some Sultry add in a touch of Improvisation the end result is going to be a performance that's a dynamic offspring of all three...it just needed for somebody to bring in that infusion and no - the earlier dance teams did not have sultry, they did Sultry but relied more on a stupendous buck than anything else. Sultry came by way of those two captains that you really didn't care for...yeah...the Morgans gave us Sultry out of the box and made it a part of the stable. KG gave us a syncopated improve, but still kept that mean old buck. It's the evolution of it all: all of KGs children and everyone thereafter has the green light to mix in whatever dancestyle works best, but just keep that buck. You just have to have someone to pay the cost to be the forerunner.

@@HH-ji9nv i agree with everything you said.. KG was a good stands captain, but her fieldshows just was NOT it... nor did i enjoy the tryout videos... also, some of her new stand counts over her era was VERY STINGETTE-ish... once she revealed that her highschool danced similar to the Stingettes, then it alll made sense because some of the counts are not traditional Jsette counts... and KG was also not a good bucker...
