@Cubby113able4 жыл бұрын
That was exactly what I was thinking when I was watching this performance again today Anna Hanson. I remember back when I saw it for the very first time when it first aired I didn't know anything about narcissism. I did but I didn't. I did in the sense that I was being manipulated by someone who was like that but I didn't know the name for it yet. Now I do and so I know what to be looking for now. Sadly it has become so commonplace that I have decided to remain alone for the rest of my life. it's just not worth my getting crushed over and over again.
@Cubby113able4 жыл бұрын
When Mia described that Kupono is to symbolize addiction and Kayla keeps coming back to him over and over again. You can see how torn she was. She didn't want to want him but that soul tie/trauma bond that is between them is what keeps pulling her back to him. That I think is the most difficult part of trying to break free from a narcissist it is that toxic bond that they create between you and them. It is sooo hard to say to them and to yourself I don't need you and I don't want to be a part of your world ANYMORE. it took me several times of having to try and leave my narc before I finally said it was enough. I knew I was dying. I could feel it inside of me. He was literally sucking the life out of me to the point that I didn't even care or want to live anymore. You just have to come to the point and realize that hey I do love myself more than that crazy roller coaster ride that they put you on when you're with them.
@melizmatea2 жыл бұрын
This is maybe my favourite performance of all-time - they are both terrific, but I think Kayla is superb. She really came across and desperate and pathetic and it was heart-wrenching. At the end when she had her arm up and was trying to pull away from him, how she broke down and gave in...it was so heartbreaking. And the choreography is just incredible - every single step meant something, gave us a visual that evoked so many associations and it really told a story. I think Kayla's acting was fantastic - honestly, I didn't expect that level from her, no offence to her at all, but I think she was right in it and had every movement thought out. Tyce was right on with what he said about Mia's choreography - it does require acting and it is so intelligent and so much thought goes into it. Kupono was really good too - what an amazing partner he is and he was malevolent and controlling without being cartoonish. I just think this whole number is genius.

Totally agree. I still get pissed at Nigel’s comments. Tyce’s too, really. You can see how amazing they truly were when you see Cole and Lindsay dance it a few seasons later (they were also good and I enjoyed their interpretation, but it wasn’t anywhere near as compelling as this dance). Probably my all time favorite SYTYCD dance.

what an incredible piece of choreography, song choice, performance from these beautiful dancers, i watched this first without any explanation about the context and felt that it portrayed the destructive relationship with a narcissist. And of course as it was explained, the dance of addiction, essentially the same thing. Tears just fell watching this the first time and for every time since, possibly the best routine to have ever come from this show. Disagree also with the last judge, Kupono played this part perfectly, the strength of the drug, the narcissist or whatever it is, only comes from the user giving him value, to be sinister and at the same time 'spineless' was required, not being strong. Thank you Mia Michaels, genius.
