Hi Riley. Watching you practice your writing I remembered that my mom had beautiful penmanship. Learning to use long hand is the max. Good luck with that one. Keyla, I see that you are not doing Spanish. Not criticizing, but am advising that you begin to incorporate Spanish studies into their curriculum. It is not only good in the sense that they are learning a second language, but even cooler that it is your mother tongue --lot's of songs, poems and storytelling there for children and it is so much fun. PLUS< it will get you to practice your spanish. ALSO --studies show that learning a second language improves your cognitive and analytical skills and focusing. Plus Plus, The best time to learn a 2nd language is before the age of around 9 --right before puberty. ONce you get older, it is quite the challenge. SO, take advantage and be nice to your kids, give them a heads up, and teach them Spanish.

actually, Kayla's 1st lang is Eng but she knows some Spanish.................

Her reading is amazing! Did she learn to read that good from Good and beautiful ? My K 5 year old is still working on 3 letter words and 4 letter blends. Jackson is so cute. How long do you do homeschool with Riley?

So helpful to see how you do school with the kids. I've decided to home school. My eldest is 4 and would have been starting school here in the UK in September. I've been trying to be a bit more consistent with doing school daily as it will be a legal requirement in September. But I've been struggling with how much sit down work to give her and how to incorporate play. I went to regular public school so feel like I'm going through the unschooling process for myself. So this is really helpful to know that she doesn't have to spend 6 hours a day sitting at a table 😅. Any tips on how to cut down or manage screen time? My 4 year old loves screen time and cries a lot if I try to turn the tv off...she wants to sit in front of the tv all day watching cartoons. I also have a 1 year old and have found that while I'm busy with the little one my 4 year old has found cartoons to watch that aren't the best but now she won't turn them off. This is often a barrier to her wanting to do school work so I really want to tackle this before September when she's expected to spend more time on school than she is at the moment....

Do you plan on using horizons preschool for 4s for Jackson? I can’t seem to find it online anymore. I’m wondering if they changed it. I used the preschool for 3s this year for my son and loved it.

For next year I’ll likely just use the good and the beautiful’s preschool book for jackson and then supplement with all the faith based stuff I’ll be using with Riley.

Hmm, I grew up in a church full of homeschoolers. Now as full grown adults, I don’t think they turned out any better/different than the general population. Many of them took gap years in college. Some are divorced. One went to jail for hitting a guy while drunk driving. I wish I could believe in the virtues of homeschooling, but I have a hard time denying my observations and experiences.
@KaylaBuell5 ай бұрын
Sounds like that could happen with homeschoolers or non homeschoolers, for sure! But one of the reasons we homeschool is because I’m blessed to be in a position to be home with my children and I genuinely want to spend as much time as I can with them. And I enjoy teaching them. So who knows what they’ll “turn out like” but for now, the decision makes sense for us and we’re all happy :)
