That paladarium is amazing. I have always loved reptiles but haven't had any for some years. If I were going to jump back in I'd definitely want something arboreal and semi aquatic that I could keep in such a beautiful, active, and lush enclosure. Your build video was informative and made it look easy, although I know it's not! Mangroves are simply amazing animals and I'd love to have one, but I should probably start back out in the hobby with something a bit easier. My wife would kill me if I brought home a snake lol. Maybe a gecko or chameleon in a setup like this is in my future. If anyone can think of any other easier to keep species of snake that would do well in a paladarium like this please let me know. I'm not really beginner level I don't think. I've had a boa, python, and garter snake in the past; as well as geckos, a newt, tree frogs, turtles, and anoles as a kid/teenager but had to re-home some when i moved away to a place where it would have been impossible to keep herps. Now that I'm settled and have a an almost 3 yr old son who's into this stuff too I'm excited at the prospect of getting involved. I appreciate any suggestions! Again, awesome setup and congrats on the Mangrove.

I do water changes, spot clean, and use a toothbrush to scrub off urates from the wood. Any residual urates/fecal matter in the soil is broken down by the microfauna and later absorbed by the plants. I also clean the glass occasionally with a diluted vinegar solution!

I did a set up like urs for my mangrove snake. The trouble is she won't eat and I think it's temp related. How do u heat that enclosure?
@kaylaroach Жыл бұрын
I have a small low-wattage halogen bulb to provide a suitable basking spot. What are your temps? Boiga are notorious for being difficult to feed, especially when they’re young. My CB melanota was force-fed for a year with his previous owner, and my CB nigriceps was assist-fed for the first few months. Have you tried different prey items? Leaving food in her enclosure at night when it’s dark? Some of my Boiga only eat at night when I leave the room. If the husbandry is perfect and you’ve tried various prey items and feeding methods, yet she’s still not eating, you might need to assist-feed.
@ddmorphballzz2651 Жыл бұрын
@@kaylaroach she is an adult imported 6months ago. They 1st said rat pups. The day old chicks. I've tried both and live and fresh kill. Nothing. I have under tank and deep thermal up top..bottom temp is 78-80 top is 91. She spends most of the day under substrate. She has cuddled with the rat and chick...they told me it's to hot....this is my 1st mangrove. I have 150 ball pythons so it's not 1st snake.
@kaylaroach Жыл бұрын
@@ddmorphballzz2651 WC imports can be tricky to get acclimated/feeding consistently. Seems like your enclosure is too hot. An arboreal snake buried under substrate is often a sign that they’re trying to cool down. Boiga do not tolerate excessive heat or dryness well. I would ditch the under-tank heating and allow the bottom of the enclosure to be much cooler than the top. 91 surface/basking temp during the day is fine, as long as she has access to low 70’s elsewhere in her enclosure. And make sure the heat turns off at night (assuming your room is kept at a comfortable ambient temperature). They hunt at night when it’s dark and the temps are cool, and that’s when my Boiga eat reliably!

How long does it take to get a venomous snake license and where can I get one cause I want to keep a few venomous snakes
@kaylaroach2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I can’t answer that question. It depends where you’re located and what the laws are in that region. Permits are usually only required for “hot” snakes (front-fanged, and overall very dangerous). The snake featured in this video is a rear-fanged colubrid with medically insignificant venom, and I don’t require a permit to keep him. Where I’m from, venomous snakes can only be kept by zoological or research facilities. I’d suggest getting familiar with the laws of your area and, if permissible, only getting involved with venomous snakes if you have received extensive training and gained hands-on experience with them. Definitely not something to be taken lightly. Hope this was helpful! 😊🙏🏼
