Because of this, I can't understand how you'd say Lu would have a solid 220. Only 2 lifters in the 85s have hit 220 or more in competition. One of which (Tian Tao) is a squat jerker. The only other ones that I know have done 220 or more in training are Ulanov and Pielieshenko. Traveling back in time, Varbanov hit 215 in comp and 222 in training while weighing less. Xiaojun is a great lifter but there's no way his jerk would increase 16kg just by switching from squat to split.

Notables: Shi in 69k, Rahimov going 4k over WR in 77k with 214 (tho as an old guy I remember Varbanov doing 215.5 as a 75k thirty years ago!); Roshani win in 85k; nice win by Nuridinov in 105k. I would have passed Behdad's 2nd jerk but he still would have been beaten by Lasha, who looked good for a 220+ snatch. He is so young. Bright future if he manages to bypass the positive drug tests.

They visibly shake and the bar sways. He never had the bar in a stable position. At the tokyo olympics where the judges were much stricter it is very likely that the lift would have gotten red lights. It doesn't matter as much now because Rahimov actually just got stripped of his gold medal and banned for 8 months for switching urine tests.

I see this comment all the time, why do people seem to think switching methods will automatically yield better results? They have the best coaching in the world and have been using their techniques since they began, if there was a better alternative then they would do it. No one could have predicted Rahimov hitting 214, it was 4kg above the world record, so it was safe for Lu and his coaches to assume that hitting a 202 would secure a gold.
