They should relocate that button. Its right in the perfect spot to get accidentally hit by items placed in the small storage bin right in front of it.

There were AWD vehicles made 40 years ago that had buttons, switches or levers that did the same thing.

Car companies have to dumb everything down for millennials. I have the world's cheapest anti theft system: a manual transmission. I've left my car unlocked in parking lots and nope, nobody has tried to take it. The sight of the manual pattern on the shifter is like kryptonite to thieves.

@caroletoney3209 It has AWD on demand, and it's pretty much FWD until you press the button. That's supposed to reduce wear and improve gas mileage.

Better gas mileage when it’s off, no need for awd/4wd in the city

@@M67v A lot of systems default to off and you turn it on when needed. Unless it’s mechanical awd - like Torsen differentials on Quattro Audi’s

My 09 Honda Crv AWD technically was 2 wheel drive until it detects wheel rotation then distributed power to all 4. In a snow storm few years back at a intersection I lost control and had to hit the accelerator to purposely spin the tires and got 4wd to kick in😂 pulled me right out of the spin

I bought a 2024 Equinox and replaced the stock tires with the Michelin Cross Climate 2’s. I can tell you that I’ve had no need for that button in awful driving conditions

Why would it always need to be on when you don’t have a need or reason to use it? Don’t need to be on all wheels drive all the time. Only need to use it in certain road conditions.

Better MPG. I own a 2018 and I get about 5-7 more MPG in FWD only. I really only use AWD when I need to speed up quickly, and during inclement weather.

I don't understand why GM doesn't make a "Denali" level Equinox with the Olds Bravada AWD system. It was in a constant ready mode. The computer knew when to activate the transfer case if wheels kept slipping on the ground. To be fair, when it first came out, the Bravada was pricey for a GM SUV so they all came standard with leather power seats and tons of items that were optional on the cheaper cousin the Blazer. GM should have transferred the model over to GMC's lineup as a family SUV to keep it alive after Oldsmobile went under.

For an Equinox a model like that would be called the High Country. Equinox Premier is already pricey enough as is. No one would buy the more expensive models.

My equinox is a premier but also has added packages ontop of the already standard ones that come with the premier my dealer called it premier + and it has a window sticker of close to $50,000

Why not just leave it on? It is not like a true 4x4 where you get binding on high traction surfaces if it is on 4x4. All wheel drive has no binding because it has a center differential. It is orientated for the road. True 4x4 vehicles are orientated around trails and off road. If 4x4 is left on when on the road, turns will bind the front and rear axles because they have no center differential, unless it is a milder 4x4 that has a center differential.

I love the awd system on my equinox! I can turn it on and off anytime I need it and what's great about it is that when awd is off, none of the rear drive train moves there by saving wear and tear. Also I hate the location of the button because I fear I might accidentally pop it on and right next to my awd drive button is my tow button!! I think 5000 pounds with my rear tow hook.
