Hey guys these look awesome, as a Philadelphian myself we generally have them with onions the green pepper thing is kind of a myth , you can order them but most people generally just get onions or even mushrooms. American Cheese and Whiz are standard along with provolone , never cheddar. Marinara is a pizza steak and the type of roll would be a "hoagie" roll, and we wash them down with a nice "lager" yuengling that is. But a classic steak in my mind would be on an Amoroso with onions and american cheese or whiz topped with ketchup. For the vegetarian steak try some seitan with american cheese , had it myself at a bar in philly and it was amazing.

Paul's version of this classic looks great, but I think it is wonderful, that he knows how they make the real deal in Philly as well...Ken if you ever visit Philly, head down to Passyunk St in south Philly for the original Pats King of Steaks, started in 1936 and their arch competitor across the street Geno's a relative newcomer who got going in 1964...you will get a thousand arguments about other great places in philly that serve the sandwich, but these are the 2 granddaddys...
@daniellack35598 жыл бұрын
Agreed, but I'd also say most Americans, living outside of Philly/South Jersey, likewise don't understand the legendary sandwich.....

Impressed with Paul's knife skills there. Funny you should mention about vegetarian Philly Cheese Steak, Ken - earlier today I was watching a Canadian show on tv here in the UK - some guy goes round the country reviewing restaurants, like a Canadian version of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Anyhoo, they were in a vegan restaurant in Toronto which is popular with meat eaters too because they do the most amazing myeat substitute dishes. They call them things like "Not Steak" and "Not Chicken" and one of the things they do is a Philly Cheese Steak using Seitan and vegan cheese that is apparently so similar to the real thing that a lot of non-vegans go out of their way to go there and order it. Same with their version of fried chicken, it's very popular with omnis. I didn't catch the name of the restaurant, so maybe someone in the know from Toronto is reading this and can provide that information. It sounds like a great place for a food review.
@bsaucier19948 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken! Fan from Philadelphia, watching this food review gave me a new perspective on other places besides philly that make cheesesteaks. Loving the onions and peppers idea. I agree that mushrooms would be delicious as well. Next time you make this sandwich or you are with Paul I definitely recommend "Cheese Whiz" instead of cheddar, mozz or Prov. Glad you guys enjoyed my city's favorite sandwich. Take Care!
