Mary Chapin Carpenter was probably the only reason I ever started listening to country. Imagine someone intelligent with incredible writing ability and drive in country music! My father was into country music, the bar and booze and cheating and truck driving... his life was a cheap country song. Last saw him at my brother's wedding; he died to me long before he passed. It took someone really special to make me notice a change in country: that is MCC.

This video gives me chills and proves that Mary Chapin was respected in the country community for her writing abilities and the power in her voice and her lyrics. I lived 90's country and like older country as well, so I can name many of the women in this video, though I don't claim to know them all.

I had the privlege of meeting Chapin backstage once - she was just as warm and genuine as could be. I've watched this vid dozens of times, shared it and loved it. As an old radio guy - I can well appreciate the lyrics and the incredible effort it took to get (figuartively speaking) these grand old dames in the same place at the same time to sing a song they've all lived right along with their sisters everywhere, no matter what their occupation is. Brava Chapin and all the women on that stage!

Talk about making an entrance, when all the ladies on stage take a step down and the legends walk in, what a show stopper. I couldn't name half of them, but I knew how big and important they all were by audience reaction. I wish I could find this DVD.

We start off with the song "The Hard Way." So we're already at awesome. Then we have Wynonna and Kathy Mattea join in. Patty, Suzy, Michelle, Pam, Trisha, Emmylou. Tammy Wynette?? We're officially at dumbfounded. Now a tidal wave of legendary singers all taking a bow for their achievements. Every ingredient of this video is wonderful, but none more so than the fact that everything these ladies got, they indeed got the hard way. Imagine 50+ women writing the same autobiography - that's what we've got here. I defy anyone not to be inspired by this.

Rarely will one find this much talent in one place at one time, and the song fits; Nashville has normally been a man's town and all of these women have had to succeed in that atmosphere. They got it the hard way, and we're the better for it. Thanks, Chapin. This, I think, is from the CMT "Women of Country" show from the early 90's.

Well, Alison MacKenzie of the Cheers, Family Ties and Fletch fame who dubbed Patsy Cline since June 15, 1975 has signed a deal with Universal Music (Angel Records, Geffen Records, Mercury Nashville) with the expection of its unsuccessful album from Fall 1980 with overdubbed songs of the 1960's versions were not doing very well at all was "Always: Patsy Cline." She really rocked here in New York City - audiences and fans were praised with her lovely contributions here.

This was an amazing performance, not about Country in Nashville, but because of the talent that graced the stage--not an easy way did they get into this field and have a career. They share many a character traits no doubt - drive, strength, courage, "inspiration" and "spark", but for sure these women came by their careers the "Hard Way". Wonderful befitting song that is timeless!! So glad kbman44 captured what we watched years ago. Thank you for such.

Such a powerful spark of inspiration. As a woman, like so many, single mom, but pushing through, went back to school, looking for work, nurturing my family. This song seriously speaks to me. Trying to make a list of everyone there, if anyone can add, awesome 1. Mary Chapin 2. Winona Judd 3. Kathy Mattea 4. ? 5. Patty Loveless 6. ? 7. Pam 8. Emmylou 9. Trisha Yearwood 10. Tammy Then the huge group where it’s tough to see everyone 11. Wilma Lee 12. Lynn Anderson (I believe next to WL, but even if not, she is there) 13. The QUEEN Kitty (this & the next one are who should have been front & center in the group) 14. Patsy Montana (the 1st, the original, etc) 15. Jean Shepherd 16. Wanda Jackson (far side of Patsy?) at 3:21 17. Skeeter (front, left) 18. Jeannie Seeley (middle right) 19. Jeannie C Riley (back, center) 20. Rose Maddox (toward front powder blue suit) 21. Martina (randomly in the crowd) 22. Believe I caught sight of Pruett too They’re never on anyone else long enough to definitively identify for me. But of great note for me is no Loretta (arguably most important to be there outside of Kitty). Also of significant note is no Dolly or Dottie (if this is pre Sept 91). Didn’t spot Goldie, Jan Howard, the Carpenter girls, or oh my goodness Minnie! Could’ve missed some of them in the crowd, but I don’t believe so
