Very nice. Appreciated how you waited out the offensive guard timings and the spike breaks. Surprised you have no agitator, but i'm guessing it's because you don't want me to have excuses on why my run was so slow +_+ Also, I just finished farming this quest, and he only gave me 1 GSG per run. I wanted to use Guard 3 to maximize attack somewhat, but I was only able to get a couple of levels of Agitator and ditched it. Ruiner also unenrages 2 times in the fight, so I felt like it wasted time to re-enrage it over and over. At least you don't have to farm the quest anymore with those 30 GSG's. :0 (Your run was great too! If anything, I'm looking forward for more.)

I love my SnS, I enjoy the versatility and agility it gives... but I really want to learn how to use the Lance. You make it look so easy but I'm sure this is the kind of things that look easy because you know what to do. My lance runs are always slow and painful.

Hey KC, awesome clear as always! As a fellow lance main I'm always impressed by how much you're miles better than me (guard hopping backwards to block a roar is too next level for me). Some questions about the build, since it's different from the normal one you tend to run: 1. Why crit eye/health regen instead of safi/resentment? I didn't notice you taking huge chunks of damage that would make safi gear too risky, or did I miss something? I did notice you got 5 blasts which probably wouldn't go up with safi gear, but being able to take resentment and ditch levels of crit eye seems pretty big to me. 2. Why no agitator? Unless I'm mistaken with your decoration setup, you had exact room to fit it in over 3 levels of attack boost, 1 level of crit eye, and the fact that you get 4 levels of agitator from the charm instead of 3 levels of peak performance. Do you just not have the peak performance decos, or is there another reason? 3. Although I think I know the answer to this one, I'll ask just to be sure: why the 6 attack awakens instead of 2 sharpness awakens on this build? My guess is that it's hard to keep 20 units of purple against a monster with as terrible hitzones as nergi, but is there another reason? Awesome run as always, keep up the great work. Nergi is definitely one of the harder fights in the game rn, with maybe only like... rajang being tougher? Idk if you would count tempered rajang as tougher or not.

1. I opted to switch to Guard 3, which made it harder to get some Offensive Guards in due to extra chip damage, and I didn't want to have to take time to heal in case my HP got low enough. The damage between this set and the Safi set used in the last video ended up being very close to each other, and this set is *significantly* safer to use. 2. Peak Performance was easier to utilize due to the pauses in time to re-enrage Ruiner. I ended up not bothering with enraging past the first setup to get the early arm knockdown, as felt like I was wasting too much time trying trying to re-enrage it an extra two times per battle. 3. Yep. It makes it much easier to hit its arms/wings for extra damage/trip potential without the need for worrying about your damage output lowering. Purple kept being inconsistent for me in some of my better runs. For the last question, I'd say the toughest monster to be consistent at currently would be Tempered Lunastra; but she's more or less about playing super patient and not taking your turn out of order. Sometimes I'm not good at that, haha.

@@KCGemini Yeah the second question is absolutely my bad. I thought you could fit in both agitator 5 and peak 3, but I didn't know that there's no peak performance + deco. Without that, you can't fit both in. Based on this run alone, agitator 3 would have been better than the extra 3 levels of attack boost (and you do have room to fit it in), but I'm guessing that on many of your previous runs that wasn't the case, and consistency is important for things like this. I think that's also true for the other two points: this run of yours was so incredibly clean that I'm pretty sure you could have gone with purple sharpness and the safi set bonus and been fine, but I can see how that's incredibly risky when you do anything but absolutely perfect gameplay.

@@SheffiTB You can get Agitator 4 + Peak Performance 3, but that means that Critical Eye/Attack Boost will only reach +6/+4. That ends up being 97% affinity when Ruiner is enraged, but you could augment for affinity and lower your attack somewhat. Jewel wise, you can't get more than Agitator 2 without using the charm or not maxing out Peak Performance. I'm definitely going to go with purple sharpness if I do this again. I like Safi's armor set better, but Guard 3's stamina increase can make procc'ing Offensive Guard and certain bad RNG patterns quite deadly.

Wouldn't this build be able to straight up replace 3 attack boost with 3 agitator by replacing one guardian/attack with a guardian/expert, two attack jewels with an ironwall jewel and an agitator jewel (one of the attack jewels is on a 3 slot), and an ironwall/expert jewel with an agitator+ jewel? If you play as cleanly as you did in this video (which, granted, is nowhere near easy, given that any normal human being wouldn't be able to) you'd only have agitator down for about 40 seconds total, which still puts your average EFR above that of the extra 3 attack boost jewels while giving you an extra 7% overcapped affinity for hitting arms for knockdowns. Bear in mind that I am absolutely nitpicking, but I love theorycrafting and watching a player as good as you execute it actually makes theorycrafted builds come to life (which they do not do when I play them). That's why I'm so excited about getting the build perfect.

Welp, that's another thing to grind for besides the coveted Handicraft+ 4 jewel; although the longer the game goes on, the less that I see Handicraft+ 4 having any use. Not that I'm complaining about it, haha.

wow what an awesome run! new lance user and learned a lot from your videos, got a few questions 1. Does advancing guard cover the facing direction or moving direction? what to followup after it? 2. When to use block counter vs reguar block? 3. Is L2 (guard shot)and power guard useful at all?

1. The direction you're facing. It can be followed up with a shield attack, leaping thrust, or a hop. 2. Typically, you always want to use counters, but there are instances where normal blocking can come in handy, such as adjusting your aim with more breathing room. 3. Power Guard is super useful, as it gives you 360 degrees of blocking, as well as a higher stability level for guard. (An attack that may have staggered with Guard 1/3/5 may have none at all with Power Guarding.) Guard shot is actually quite useful when used with good slinger ammo such as Bomb Pods and Crystalburst.

You can do so due to both of those movements starting with i-frames. Evade Window and the Evasion Mantle help if you have trouble with default i-frames.

@@affablesage9582 Well, 3:44 to 3:49 is two Advancing Guards that I used by swinging the lance once and then chaining it into AG. To explain what happened: * I do two lance thrusts, and then did Advancing Guard to the side when I noticed his claw attack about to hit me. * I noticed a pause in said claw attack, and this pause warns you that the next attack that it'll do is the pepega slam. * At nearly the last moment, I return to neutral stance and do a upward counter. The pepega slam consists of both the slam and the spikes shooting afterwards after a brief pause. During said upswing, I use that to do another Advancing Guard to the side in order to block the spikes. The timing is something you have to practice yourself to get a hang of. Try it in the Training Area by just doing a lance thrust either neutrally or upwards and then inputting Advancing Guard. Then after that, input Advancing Guard by tilting your stick backwards or sideways to do what I did in the video.

The best way to drop button mashing is to observe monster attack patterns. Lance works best when you're in sync with the monster's moves and have an idea on how to react or counter to what they're doing.

Safi's weapons are generally better with Resentment if you're running Dragonvein Awakening; and that pairs well with chip damage and/or HP drain as you'll have no downtime in damage. For the Lightbreak Lance, it pairs well with Agitator 7 and Peak Performance for a little extra DPS if you're not constantly getting chipped. You can also throw in Safi's other lances as another option here.

Except for specific attacks, like the shield poke, lance users constantly alternate between offense and defense. Lots of timing and practice just make it *seem* like I'm continually attacking and guarding simultaneously, but lance would be broken if it worked that way.

If you mean the Pepaga Slam, then that is done whenever Ruiner adds a slight pause after a claw attack or when it is idling. If you mean the roar + jumping slam, then the order it does those attacks depends on which parts have black spikes: - If the forelimbs have black spikes, then it'll roar, then it'll jump and slam said arm down. - If the wings have black spikes, the screen will pan back when it roars, and then it'll dive with a lot more power. Said roar has a longer recovery window, so it's easier to react to.

I don't use it. Flinch shot is banned under TA rules. I'm clutch claw slapping the monster three times to automatically enrage it.

Actually, that was an Advancing Guard to the side. I did it because I noticed that Ruiner paused slightly while doing that claw attack. A pause after a claw attack is always going to end in a Pepega Slam afterwards; which would have messed up my position at the time.
