Station info: KCBS TV 2 Los Angeles, CA Launch date: June 1931 (experimental as W6XAO) 05/06/1948 (regular broadcast) Affiliation changes DuMont (1948-1951) CBS (1951-) Call sign changes KTSL (1948-1951) KNXT* (1951-1984) KCBS (1984-) Call sign meaning: CBS - network where it originated. Same meaning as San Francisco station KCBS radio (AM 740), an all news radio station. * The former one was based on LA station KNX (AM 1070), an all news radio station.

Interesting; so whereas WCBS got it's call letters in the early 50s KCBS had to wait until the mid-80s to refer itself as the West Coast main affiliate of CBS.

And KTSL was owned by Don Lee Broadcasting...TSL stood for Thomas S. Lee, son of Don Lee, who died in 1934.

@@rwa2play This was because the FCC had a rule that stations in two different cities couldn't have the same call letters. It wasn't until 1984 that the rule was lifted and CBS applied for the KCBS-TV call letters and got them.

NBC simply took the call letters from their (then owned) KNBC radio in San Francisco and applied them to KRCA (formerly KNBH) in LA leaving SF station with KNBR call.

In My Opinion, The KNXT Call Sign Should Have Assigned To Channel 11 From The Very Beginning! KTTV Is Way To Similar To KKTV Which Has Been MY Local CBS Affiliate Since Moving To America From Britain In 2013! Yup! I Live In Colorado Springs!
