The 2 wd is easier to work on less in the way, the fan shroud comes out of the way and done from up top. Those bolts on the skid plate become part of the car if there not service with anti sieze. @KFloTacoma3 жыл бұрын
Yessir, it had a screeching noise when idling. When I did the inspection, I was able to isolate which idler it was
@strelokblackburn46513 жыл бұрын
Just a PSA. For those looking for a tensioner pulley, and not the full assembly an "upper" idle bearing is the same as the tensioner pulley. Toyota nor oriellys etc will be able to get a "tensioner pully" Just replaced mine 20 min ago. Cheers
@jimyang5563 жыл бұрын
I just want to double check. I noticed my tensioner pulley spinning freely and making noises. Just replace the upper idler bearing next to the alternator because I thought it was the one causing the noise. Turns out the noise was still there. If the upper idle bearing is the same one for the tensioner puller then I’m just gonna swap out the bad tensioner pulley with the upper idler pulley. Any issues so far since the change?

@@strelokblackburn4651 Thanks a lot. Thought I would have to change the whole thing. Just did the water pump awhile ago and would hate to go back in there for the whole assembly. Just swap it with the upper one I bought for the upper and the noise is gone.

Excellent video! Thank you so much for your clear and concise explanations. Have you had to remove the idler pulley on the bottom? The one next to the crankshaft? Good instruction video 👍 There is a complete kit sold by the Continental brand that includes serpentine belt, tensioner pulley and 2 idler pulley OE quality which is recommend for the best function and service life for about 180.00 from Rockauto. The 3rd Gens and ? others may have a left thread on the bolt holding the tensioner pulley. Otherwise unloading the tensioner would loosen that bolt.

I'm not too familiar with the 3rd gen. At worst case scenario, I would remove tension by hand and hold it just to get one side of the belt off a pulley. Then you should be able to release the tension completely
