I interned at KCRA in 1995. Dave Walker and Lois Hart were the evening anchors along with a pregnant Shelly Monohan on weather. They were celebrating their 50th anniversary and a lot of the old guard were visiting the station to cut some vignettes. Mike Boyd was there, too. He was a very nice guy.

Very cool watch. Thanksgiving dinner $19.50 - car prices - weather on an easel board - living together in unwed bliss (lol) - marijuana charges (she a criminal I tell u lol) - Rancho Seco nuclear power plant - Lamco appliances - Western Airlines - Best Products (I loved my clock radio) - Pete Liebengood - Dow at 843. Life was so simple back then. Very low crime and no social media nonsense. Great memories...

I loved the Best Stores commercial at 26:25. We used to see Best commercials in Houston in 1975. I also remember the Best Store we had in southeast Houston in those days; it was the one designed by SITE with the crumbling facade. You might remember SITE did a few other BEST Stores throughout the U.S. in the '70s and early '80s; each of them unique. Man I miss those stores. Those buildings were works of art. Look up "SITE" on KZbin.

Re: Charles Percy's complaints that if Ronald Reagan managed to win the 1976 GOP nomination that the Republicans would face a "crushing defeat". 1976: President Ford narrowly edges Reagan out for the nomination; then narrowly loses to Jimmy Carter 1980: Reagan wins nomination; then blasts Carter in general election (and delivers an even bigger beatdown to Walter Mondale in 1984) Would that have happened in '76? I guess we'll never know.

I never could understand how Reagan lost to Ford. I recall thinking that a corpse would overwhelm the dolt who would not have been president had it not been for his payback as part of the Warren Commission.

The Republican brand was nearly as tarnished in 1976 as it was in 2008. Remember, the country was still reeling from the Watergate debacle. If Reagan had won the nomination, he'd probably still have lost to Carter.

I think the lower-third at 0:26 is the only time I've seen a local station logo programmed into one of the first-generation Vidifonts... they must have had to pay extra for that! I thought the only icon the original Vidifonts displayed was the CBS Eye.

Interesting news ; no reports of drive-by shootings, murders, rape, abuse, drugs. No Justin Biebers or Myluie Cyruses. A kinder, simpler time.

I agree partially. I grew up here and there were always reports of crimes and we had murders but it didn't get really bad until the early 90's. Sacramento was a great place to grow up and a really friendly city (for the most part) with the exception of the known bad areas like Oak Park, North Highlands, South Sac (florin/mack/franklin areas) and parts of East Sac as well as West Sacramento (Jefferson/Harbor). But, the area exploded in the late 80's and early 90's and things changed for the worse. Traffic, overcrowding at schools, thefts and robberies and gang violence all came with the increased population. In a very short amount of time Sacramento became a dangerous city just like other big cities. I moved away in the early 2000's to give my kids a better life and to get out of the area. I can't believe what it has become, very sad. I still own property there and get back a couple times a year and I hate how crowded and over populated the area is. But, I remember the good 'ol days and how the area used to be.

Brandon Thompson Crack was brought in. It changed EVERYTHING. My mother was a teacher for almost 20 years before people on crack began unleashing their poor addicted babies onto the schools. She said that she couldn't do it anymore and she had been teacher of the year for sacramento county. She was committed to education. The kids had issues but it was the parents who had changed. They were unstable and nuts. Mind you, she was always at the same school. They changed. She left the classroom and became a curriculum developer for the district. NOW, on another note, I noticed the "bad" neighborhoods you gerrymandered to make your case.😒 You people are so damned sickening and predictable. bastards...

What has changed since those days is the replacement of the word 'homosexual' for the word 'gay.' 'Gay' is the more accepted word today although, in the 70s, calling homosexuals 'gay' was meant as an insult. The original meaning of 'gay' was: happily excited, keenly alive and exuberant : having or inducing high spirits, bright, lively, brilliant in color, given to social pleasures. You don't hear news reporters using the word 'homosexual' anymore.

Who ever edited Pete Liebengood's sports needs to do a better job. He was dying out there. Interesting story about Bo and the Wolverines. Just a drastic change with today's TV news. Other than the film vs. tape, these sound cuts just go on and on. Today, 20 seconds is an eternity.
