I tend to focus on loss and this focus causes me to become nihilistic. Something about watching these guys perform this song makes it better that they are older. It makes me see without the beauty behind somebody, you would never really miss them to begin with when they do finally fade away. I focus so much on losing people I love that I don't enjoy them while they are still here. Scared to care too much about anything because I fear losing it. Focusing on the burden of love rather than the gift of it. I wish this was the kind of thing I could have figured out when I was younger I guess. We don't get time back though so you either spend it appreciating and living it somehow or you don't.

I heard Souvlaki first, about 30 years ago, on a roadtrip with my then-girlfriend. I'd bought the CD at a used record store on the way. From the moment Alison came on, they were my favorite band. It was the sound that was in my head, there coming out of the speakers. To this day it's my favorite song, and they're my favorite band. despite having heard hundreds if not thousands more.

I was there at the beginning. I heard brilliance. No one around me did. A little over a decade people began to notice. They have finally received the recognition they deserve. It made me so so happy that people finally began to hear this bands cloudy dreamy sound. Disappointed that there wasn't one word spoken of them in Upside Down. I recall looking on Wikipedia, oh maybe about around 2008-09 and Souvlaki only had like a 2 or 3 star rating (AllMusic), now it's 4.5 stars. Duh it was a 5 star LP when I bought it in the summer of 1993. Very important LP to me. So good to see them back together. Like the CAN shirt Neil is wearing.
