Thank you very much for all this information! I want to learn more about colour granding in Kdenlive, but it's hard to find especifics explanations like yours. People talk more about Davinci resolve, but my pc it is not good enough to suport it, so I have to do with Kdenlive.

Came out of this video sill not knowing what to do with the Vectorscope! Are we trying to match the two, are we trying to lessen the points? :( And what about just one sceen, making it look nicer/cinematic...

When I did edited on tape for broadcast we NEVER had to do this! everything was aligned to color bars. The cameras were aligned with a standard color bar generator. The RGB image pickup tubes, were properly registered, and adjusted to provide a linear response to colors. Cameras were white balanced to "chip charts" as image sensors will react to dark and light differently. so if you had a dark scene the image would not look blue or greenish. It was very linear. We never had to "color grade" any images. I could pickup a tape that was recorded months ago and edit it together with a tape just created and there might be a "tint" difference, but that was easily adjusted. NEVER did we have to do this. I record 30 seconds of a "Chip Chart" in every scene I record now and use that to perform a correct color balance since I dont have access to color linearity on the consumer or even prosumer cameras. I have to rely on "Color Grading" software rather than to make it right in the first place. I do have a broadcast camera that I have FULL control over, and its a pleasure to work with

Hi roy Yung! Thank you for checking out this video and leaving some great feedback! Setting the color sensitivity can certainly help in a lot of situations (especially where continuity is a requirement) and I'm glad you have a refined process for your workflow! Grading becomes useful to set a mood or tone that can be difficult to achieve consistently in certain shooting conditions (such as scenes that have footage from both low to high sunny days, which can sometimes force unwanted exposure and has to be reconciled in post, even when color balancing is attuned to the same baseline).

@@Photolearningism it sucks when I see some recordings that the whites are so high that they lose detail. There is nothing you can do to may pretty pictures from that I used to reject tapes that had incorrect blacks/whites, sync, control track errors, breezeway etc. The equipment I used was 2" quad. The heads spun at 14,000 rpm and were on air bearings, so you needed an air compressor for the air bearings. The portable 2" machine used ball bearings and sometimes I could see "ringing" in the picture because of the inaccuracy of the ball bearings. I had to reject the tape for editing. The director used to get soooo angry. I would say "next time, hire a professional technician, I will not use these recordings." A professional technician would know all about that machine and do a test recording then a confidence playback to see if the machine was fine.

There is an effect "colorize" in Kdenlive. But I can't find any option to change the default color. Do you have any idea how to do that?

Hi The Pink Cat! Thanks for the question - just to clarify, are you looking to use a color substitution or replacement effect?

Questions in kdenlive I keep having problems with color grade ( saturation, contrast and other effects) when I copy these effects to other clips I get footage that gets blacks out . I try to reapply these effects/color grade and the same thing happens. Any solutions?

Hi Mister Jackson! Thank you so much for watching! I ran a few tests in the latest release of #KDEnlive (21.12) and was unable to duplicate this issue. I have seen some odd behavior on occasion, different from your experience but still unexpected, which seems to resolve if I reset all settings back to default (Settings -> Configure Kdenlive -> Restore Defaults (Along the bottom-left)). Just note before trying this, it will reset any changes added to factory settings (timeline options, project paths, etc.). Hope that helps!
