This show legit made me idolize the lower middle class metropolitan aesthetic. Not even the high life but like a modest lifestyle. As a NorCal suburbanite, I was convinced that out of high school I was going to move to San Francisco and live the Mission Hill life. But of course, years go by, I grow as a person, and life priorities change. Also, as you’ve mentioned with your experience in a big city gentrification hit SF hard around the time I got out of high school making cost of living really high in that area. But I’ll always be thankful for shows like Mission Hill, Downtown, and Undergrads for committing to an aesthetic that made dream of a life outside of home in the first place. I wish more cartoons were as low key grounded as these in the modern day.

I especially liked how Andy at first refused to apply for the art job and it was Jim that had to tell him to grow up and start earning real money for once. For such a short series the characters had a ton of depth.
@Kaboomboo8 ай бұрын
Let's not overlook how Jim told him. He didn't patronize him or have to be a jerk about it. He simply said "if i give this [money] to a guy, i get beer." Showing him that there's no shame in getting a "button up" job to earn good money. Their lifestyle has to get funded anyway. @@nubreed13

The show is very rewatchable and practically demands a full series binge since it only takes a couple hours. I've been looking forward to this video release since the first episode in this series. Hopefully this video gets more people to watch this amazing old cartoon!

I very vaguely remember this show. I was way to young to be watching and understanding what was happening but it's one that I always thought the colour looked weird. Especially when the colour on my parents old CRT TV was a little off. It was one that I always tried to remember the name of when I was older but it escaped me until I was in University. When I was watching some less than legally acquired versions of Undergrads episodes, one was a direct TV recording and had an advertisement for Mission Hill being on next. Thank you,Teletoon, still haven't watched the episodes but It's one I have to go back and watch.

I was only exposed to Mission Hill through the Adult Swim run, when it would accidentally come on after my grandparents went to bed whenever we'd spend the night. The colors drew me in like any cartoon would, but this one was basically the first time I was able to *vibe* with a show. Only a few years ago did I rediscover it, and it now is genuinely just one of my favorite shows. I hope the revival that Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein want to do is able to be produced and released. Any Mission Hill content you put out, I will be here to watch and cherish as much as I do the show itself. Thanks for showing so much love and celebrating this gem.

I got introduced to this show during it's run on adult swim in college, I immediately fell in love with the series and got the DVD set! The style and characters were so entertaining and yet very human and relatable. To this day this series looms especially large in my memory. I love this show, and great job communicating what makes it work so well! :)

Mission Hill also just had a release in 4K too with live screenings of episodes with the creators which is still going on if I’m not mistaken. I only hope this show gets enough popularity as a cult classic show because the creators are still heavily interested in continuing it if there is enough support for it. But only time will tell if that ever happens. However the case what we have is also short and sweet!

One of he most under rated animated series. like Daria and We Bare Bears it captured the times and culture of its setting perfectly, so much so that if someone asks what the late 90s/ early 2000 (particularly before 911) was like I would tell them to watch this series. From millennial stagnation, technological skills disparity between the generations and the rise of reality tv it really did comment and many prominent themes of the time.

This show was such a jem. I had no idea it existed until it was on Adult Swim but it quickly became a favorite and one I think about often. Not as quotable as say, the Simpsons or anything, but the scene with the insurance man lives in my mind rent free forever. I'm glad more people are talking about this show these days. Not sure I'd want to see a revival per day, but it is a show which needs more eyes on it.

The sad part is unless you watched the episodes when they aired or first year on adult swim, you never heard the original soundtrack till recently. All the videos on youtube have the dvd audio where the music is poorly mixed and are generic songs to fill the space of the licensed music removed. I have the original first printing of the dvd release in the cardboard box. I was a kid when this show aired and i remember riding my bike to best buy to get the dvd when it was released. This and Downtown(which i have the semi rare signed dvd set) have a chokehold on my childhood memories. I still put this on when i am drawing. The critic is another great show that didnt get time to really shine either.

It sucked having channel surfed and found the first two episodes and then having to wait a few years to see it again. Totally different style and tone than the Oblongs but I group the two shows together in that they were short lived, had a really weird but good sense of humor to them and for the time had some style choices that made them stand out from the standard far of shows like the Simpsons and Family Guy. It was cutting edge "network" TV at the time. Underage drinking, pornography, gay people having sex and real life relationship issues. The series did have enough time to have most of the main characters have prominent story lines (even though the show focused on the brothers). If I'm throwing together a thumb drive "good stuff you never heard of" for someone Mission Hill goes into the animated folder.

I heard a rumor that the executives watched the Mission Hill pilot and hated the show. But the needed a “filler show” so they paid for one season thinking it would fail it didn’t but they chose not to pick it back up sounds like ego to me
