This song was a favourite of my mum, who is still alive. She loved this song about about 18 years ago and she still knows it. Sadly, she has Alzheimer's now. She remembers the song, but hearing it makes me cry. The words like "so little time", and "trying to make a move just to stay in the game" bring me to tears. She has struggled, so much of her life has changed as we have gotten older, moved away, she had to retire from a job she loved etc.... and she was "just trying to make a move just to stay in the game", but she couldn't.... it breaks my heart, but she still smiles and sings when this song comes on for her.... Everyone, take care of each other, your parents and yourselves x

Went to see them live last night, 4/05/24. And I have to say they were one of the best bands I’ve seen live. Brought back so many memories from when my parents used to play their songs in the car. This might sound like hyperbole, but for me this is one of the greatest songs ever written. It always reduces me to tears. It's funny how music can so strongly relate to a certain time or experience in your life. 2004-2005 I used to work as the day shift ops manager at a remote industrial plant a good 90 mins drive from my home city. 'Hopes & Fears' was on repeat in the car during that time. 15 years later and this album will always be connected to my daily commute back then. It was a hard and demanding job but I got to work with some of the finest and toughest men in the business, the camaraderie was strong, and by the time I left I'd made a number of long-lasting friendships. It was a good gig. I miss those days. This song and others from the album take me back right away.

This is really beautiful. My memory of this is not so poignant - but rather, being 18 years old and having this quiet sadness about approaching adulthood, and with it the dampening of my still pretty wild feelings.
