What an interesting history. That seems to be the story of many old prospectors, but at least one of them did well, I think this is my favorite.

Yes it was. The hike was more than I expected. Not long but extremely steep.

I FIRST VISITED KEANE WONDER AND THE BIG BELL MINE ABOVE IT OVER 50 YEARS AGO. YOU’VE DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THIS VIDEO. GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY AND COMMENTARY. THE BEST VIDEO I’VE SEEN. VERY WELL DONE!!!!

Thanks so much. I really enjoyed the making of this video. On a different trip I saw the Big Bell Mine from above. It was too late in the day for that hike and I was by myself. I will try reaching it another time.

We visited the Keane Wonder Mine site in early March. We had driven by the small sign on the Beatty Cutoff many times, and this time we decided to check it out. What a treat! And what a lovely hike up (up up) it was. I turned back when the ridge we were on got too narrow for my nerves, but my wife and granddaughter continued a bit higher. Really stunning mountain scenery. When we reached the parking lot, there was an older couple who had set up some beach chairs a short distance away and were just enjoying the view out over the Valley. My wife said that looked good to her, but she would want a bottle of Champagne on ice to make it a perfect picnic.

Thanks, Ghost Town Wonders, for putting forth the effort to reach the mine proper. The grade looked bad enough, hope the footing was solid: nothing worse than trying to make headway uphill in loose, slag-like rock. The completeness of the tramway is amazing, am surprised more of the operating equipment was not scrapped. Glad to see the Parks Department is doing preservation work as needed. Need to put this one on my places to visit (provided I ever make it to Nevada.)

It was a great trip, difficult hike and all. Glad you liked it. Surprising the trail was not loose or shaley like. Very steep grade though.

Thanks for the kind words Case. I really enjoyed the hike up. However, it was far more steep than I thought it was going to be. I have bad knees and really suffered coming back down. Took me twice as long to come back down as it did going up. It is a trip I will always remember.

@GhostTownWonders I hadn't even thought of that🫣. Thank you for taking the time to hike all the way up there. This video, your channel, and your sense of adventure are awesome. A true treasure. Thank you for preserving this piece of history on a medium(KZbin) that is accessible to the next generation, and generations to come. ♥️♥️

@@GhostTownWonders no, really thank you for all your efforts. I'm from California so it's like your making awesome videos about my backyard. I've watched quite a few videos about some of the old mines and none of them really cover the history or even discuss the equipment like you. And in another twenty or thirty years a lot of these sites aren't going to exist any more. It seems like with each generation they care less and less about our history and more and more about blocking access because they raised their kids to stupid to trust they won't walk off into a mine shaft. Between vandalism and over zealous environmentalist I'm surprised these places have survived as long as they have. But thanks to you, they will never be forgotten. Your a good man for taking the time to video tape or record what ever they call it these days, I wish you the best of luck with your channel and life in general. Keep it up and I hope you make millions... Or at least enough off you tube ads to pay for your expenses so you can keep making amazing videos.

American Woman, thanks again for your comments. I have been doing this for almost 3years now. YT is definitely not a way to make a living. I am about $10k upside down now for expenses vs income from YT. I have been able to buy a half tank of fuel with all the proceeds from YT to date. 🤣🤣🤣. I do it for the love of history and exploration.
