Congratulations to Keegan O’toole. Happy to have a mizzou guy stand atop the podium again. Also let’s not forget what Shane Griffith has done for college wrestling. He pretty much single handedly saved the Stanford wrestling program that was being discontinued after last year. He stood up for his teammates and all wrestling fans. Due to him Stanford still has a wrestling program. So nothing but respect for him. But it was our boys year.

O'Toole has got to be one of the most technically sound wrestlers I've seen in a while. He's got strong fundamentals and is always in good position. He's the prime example of doing all the small things right. His JV and HS coaches deserve some big respect.

The fact Griffith chose neutral got me frustrated💀 he can get up from toole, woulda been 5-4 if he got up before toole could get ride time, then Griffith could still take a stall call, he could take another and make it 5-5 to go to OT even. He didn’t play it smart in my opinion. But then again toole can turn him

I think he was afraid of O’Toole getting back points. Like the commentators said, Keegan has pinned wrestlers in the world championships so that’s likely why Griffith went neutral. That and he scored on O’Toole so maybe that was his plan and then a ride out.

@Hopkidnow
@Hopkidnow 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the replies…didn’t realize O’Tooles top game (vs let’s say Wick or Hamitt) But for the win…I gotta think it’s a higher prob for Griffith to get an escape + battle getting taken down vs….getting a takedown to win…or giving up nearfall on bottom. Sorry, maybe it’s just my moneyball mentality transitioning to wrestling.
@siryort7024
@siryort7024 2 жыл бұрын
Do not forget riding time. If Otoole prevents Griffith from escaping then he is also racking up riding time so it could be that he negates his escape with the point of riding time that he would get in the end if he held him down for at least a minute and 22 seconds. In that case they are both neutral and it is tied which is exactly the way they started the third period. Except now he has a whole period to get a take down and does not need to worry about getting put on his back from the down position. Since he had gotten two take downs on him already my guess is he figured he could do it again. If so then he would have a chance to pad his 22 seconds of riding time. I think it was a great call on his part except the second takedown was not really a take down that should have been awarded so that might have skewed it a little bit.
