Good sir you will not regret the choice of starting your first pipe adventure. Took almost two year before starting mine. It'll have been a year soon and my only thought is "Why didn't I start sooner?!" I so say a little bookshelf tour sound pretty nice to me. Good smokes to you and your. Peace.

I have advise for you. It is something muttonchop piper said. 💜 A pipe isn't meant to be inhaled and that's the way s person becomes addicted. If you don't inhale, you won't be addicted.

Lots of truth in here Alan. My Grandfather was a contented pipe smoker. He smoked his pipe throughout each day, every day for 70 years until he died aged 93. He only ever smoked one type of tobacco - Erinmore Flake. He only ever owned one pipe at a time. He would never be seen out walking without a pipe in his mouth or sat at home by the fire with a pipe alight or laying beside him. I have never known a more contented man, never striving for that next best blend or that new shaped pipe. I own his last pipe and it is a treasured possession. I also have those precious memories of him and I strive to be like him as much as I can, but I know I will never be as contented as he was. I enjoy a pipe and sit and think about him and try to get back to that bygone era that you talk about. Thanks for the content Alan.

I'm new to pipe smoking and absolutely loving the experience so far. I would really like to thank people like you and George Bruno for helping me get started in this awesome hobby. By the way, I really like this new camera setup Alan. The audio has also improved a lot from your earlier videos. Can't wait for many more videos in the future.

I miss McLellan terribly. I didn’t purchase nearly as much from them as I had hoped. Now what you can find costs more than I’m willing to pay. Damn that government interference.

Hi Alan, firstly l'd like to say how l enjoy your channel. I enjoy your relaxed manner in your delivery on your pipe smoking experiences and knowledge. I went to school in Toulon, Illinois, but, have lived in Melbourne, Australia for many years, but, certainly miss the easy laid back life in Toulon, a largely rural farming district. I have wanted to smoke a pipe for many years, but, not sure where to start. Cost certainly is a factor. Having a corn farming background, l love a corn cob pipe; and, l love aromatics. What's your advice?

K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) is a great phrase this day in age,you mentioned milk isle, walk into any isle & mind blowing the varieties you see, better yet walk into or drive up to a coffee shop, blows 1's mind, agree pipe smoking for me like fly fishing & tying is my escape from a complicated world/life & K.I.S.S. is my way of doing it,causes me to slow down & look around at what's most important

Dear sir, I’m new to your channel I truly enjoy the content as I’m a pipe enthusiast as well. Was drawn to your channel upon watching your video on Mr. Shelby Foote, as I’m am an avid reader of Mr Foote. I was introduced to him by a history teacher in college in Raymond MS. Saw you mentioned Community Coffee. I love this brand along with another small company in Lafayette called Mello Joy it too is a wonderful robust Cajun coffee. Thank you and look forward to up and coming content. I agree seemingly in todays age compared to when I was a child and when my parents and grandparents in rural Alabama.

Thank you Alan , another good video on keeping things simple , as you say life can be to complicated so I agree with your view if it's not broken you don't have to fix it , most people always go back in time to the things they enjoyed when they where younger and as you say memories of old family recipes always made an impact on your life that you can keep remembering and trying when you want to take a trip back in time when things were less complicated. Best wishes from England U K .

A few thoughts on the subjects you mentioned: 1) If something is good, why change it? The old Yankees back where I came from had a rule of life: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." 2) We had sweet potatoes back in New England, but no sweet potato pie. We had plenty of punkin [sic] pie, especially in the fall (yep, my grandma made the best). 3) The McClelland Tobacco Company was top of the line, I agree, but they closed their doors stoutly refusing to sell their tobacco blend recipes. As a sad result, I have been unable to score a good match of their Old Dog blend, and my final tin is nearly exhausted. Can you suggest? 4) Very possibly, the tobacco used by McClelland was garnered from areas the company preferred not to disclose. As Robert K. Heinmann wrote in his *Tobacco & Americans*, "One of the most striking characteristics of Nicotiana Tabacum is that it is more true to the earth in which it grows than to the seed from which it springs." Perique, as an extreme example, will not grow anywhere except in a triangular-shaped field in Louisiana. It is obvious from the above that your expressed thoughts provoke my own musings amid a swell of smoke from my own pipe. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of your readers would say the same. Thank you for your input, and keep it coming!

I heard somewhere about pipe smoke having a repelling effect on mosquitos. I know this might be a concern in the south. I live in California where we have a fly problem (but very few mosquitos), especially, inside the house. Do you know if pipe tobacco repels flies? If it does, how can I get my wife to let me smoke a pipe indoors? Much appreciated.

Nothing simpler than a match...a cob..and a pouch filled with plain ol baccy. Course every now and again the flint lights the new leaf from some far off place inside a well balanced briar (the kind my grandfather never could afford) and that too is simple enough (just with added flare)...either way in that moment its only puffs and thought nothing more that matter and that's simple enough. [Btw what a MUG! Almost a Stein!]

Says the man with hundreds of pipes and thousands of tobacco blends. Sorry, this came across as silly and much like a grumpy old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn. I'll take today's technology and food systems and scientific advancements and medical breakthroughs. Yes, with that comes increasing complexity, but it isn't that hard to navigate it all, as well as to create simple systems. As for simple pipe smoking, I have a few corn cobs, a few briars and hardwoods, and one churchwarden. A couple of regular aromatics, a couple of English blends, and a half dozen sampler bags. I don't need to go on a neverending quest for the next pipe or another tobacco blend that will be pretty much the same as I have now.

Brother you are so right soil , is different in ever area it must alter the taste of tobacco as it does in vines when making wine, as will sunshine , wind rain , if it grows facing north south east or west it must all effect the plant the french have a name for it TERROIR and the whole package is important. Thank you sir for another great video.👍👍🇬🇧🦡
