This is a very good album. I love this era of the Statesmen. Most folks think of Jake and Rosie when they think of the Statesmen, but Doy, Hovie, and Chief keep the Statesmen sound going while adding some new elements with Jim and Sherill.

I never knew the Statesmen sang “Yesterday” as well!! I’d only ever heard the Cathedrals do it. Didn’t George Amon Webster write the song??

Thank you for posting and sharing! What a great album with Sherrill! Also equally cool is their bassist! Tim Baty

Just a solid early 70’s gospel album, distinctively done as only the Statesmen could do them. This was more than just a good lineup, this was an excellent one. The song selection is superb, careful to feature each member and their strengths. Nielsen was in a class by himself. All styles (for that era) are covered, and to me at least the Statesmen are very comfortable experimenting and stretching their creativity. Baty knocks out Mylon’s I Want To Live For Him. Solid album.
